The Jets hope to make another trade in the coming days. Two prominent names on their short list are the Falcons' T.J. Duckett and the 49ers' Kevan Barlow, both more accomplished than Lee Suggs. -- New York Daily News Evidence continues to mount that the 2006 football season could be the last one for Bill Cowher as coach of the Steelers. The latest indication came when club president Art Rooney II yesterday confirmed a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report that negotiations with the coach's agent to extend his contract had ended for this year. -- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette If Bill Cowher does retire after the season, assistant head coach Russ Grimm or offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt would be strong Steelers candidates to succeed him. Parcells has said the Cowboys would do a scout swap with select teams to evaluate players for a potential trade. -- Fort Worth Star-Telegram J.P. Dick Jauron moved in that direction Monday by anointing Losman the front-runner. Kelly Holcomb is losing the battle and he knows it. -- Buffalo News Justin McCariens, who landed in coach Eric Mangini's doghouse when he failed his conditioning test to start camp, appears to still be there and may emerge as trade bait as the Jets continue their search for help at running back and nose tackle. -- Newark Star-Ledger The Titans appear unwilling to deal Chris Brown for anything less than a second-round pick, and the Redskins are unlikely to yield Ladell Betts after the shoulder injury to Clinton Portis. -- Newsday Veteran running back Ladell Betts, who returned to practice from a hamstring injury yesterday, confirmed that preliminary discussions with the Redskins about a contract extension are under way. -- Washington Post In reality, it appears the Lions already know Charles Rogers' fate -- and it's not with this team -- and they're simply building a case to release him sooner than later. -- Detroit News | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
