Young had been due to bat in the eighth inning, when Leyland had Kevin Hooper hit for him. Young was let go after the game. On Thursday, though, president and general manager Dave Dombrowski said no such incident took place. Looking ahead to 2007, White Sox GM Ken Williams figures to move either Freddy Garcia or Javier Vazquez to open a spot for Brandon McCarthy. But the Sox' GM also like Baltimore Orioles left-hander Erik Bedard, so there could be multiple trades. Mariano Rivera will test his troubled right forearm today at Camden Yards. To what degree is the question. The Yankees insist that since that since the MRI taken hours before Rivera's last appearance showed no structural damage, they aren't concerned. Reds closer Eddie Guardado was scheduled for surgery Friday to replace a torn ligament in his left elbow, an operation that likely will sideline him next season. General manager Jon Daniels said Thursday that Frank Francisco, who hasn't pitched in the majors since the end of the 2004 season, will join the Rangers today for the final three weeks of the season. Dodgers rookie right-hander Chad Billingsley felt no discomfort in his left side after two days of throwing on flat ground and a red-eye flight from Milwaukee, increasing the likelihood that he would start next week.
