The Dolphins worked out Charles Rogers on Tuesday, 10 days after the Lions cut the wide receiver they took No. 2 overall in the 2003 draft. The Dolphins also worked out former Florida State wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe. Rogers' past wouldn't necessarily deter Dolphins coach Nick Saban. The Panthers had former Dallas quarterback Drew Henson in for a workout, but he left without being offered a contract. Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Association, said yesterday he does not believe there is a significant amount of undetected use of human growth hormone by players leaguewide, but he would be receptive to any proposed changes to the sport's steroid-testing program if the league's medical advisers recommend. Bill Parcells' commitment to Drew Bledsoe is week-to-week. He hasn't made, nor is it realistic to think he will, a season-long commitment to Bledsoe. It's obvious he likes [Tony] Romo better than he has liked any backup since he's been here. That's not saying much considering that cast includes Chad Hutchinson and Drew Henson. Cleared medically 10 days after his appendectomy, Ben Roethlisberger will start at quarterback for the Steelers Monday night in Jacksonville provided he feels up to it and he can perform properly in practice this week, starting today. Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter said he couldn't have cheered against his own team Monday night because he was too busy chatting up fans. How much longer Porter remains in Oakland is another story. The Raiders would like to deal Porter, but the problem is teams are not interested in him. During the offseason, the Broncos made an inquiry about Porter, but quickly shied away when they learned the price for Porter would be two first-round picks. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
