USC, outraged over Brent Musburger's revealing during ABC's telecast of the Nebraska game what the Trojans contend was privileged information, fired off a complaint Monday to ESPN. Musburger began describing on the air how USC quarterback John David Booty lets his receivers know he has spotted a certain kind of coverage.

Oklahoma's loss to Oregon wasn't the first time replay official Gordon Riese has been involved in controversy. On Nov. 20, 1982, he was the line judge when California defeated Stanford on arguably the most controversial finish in college football history. Cal won the game on a crazy kickoff return. In 2002, Riese told the San Jose Mercury News he wasn't in position to call an illegal forward lateral because he had been run over by the on-rushing Stanford band.

Miami athletic director Paul Dee is standing firm on his plan to assess Larry Coker's performance after the season. If UM fails to achieve its conference title goal, the administration likely will terminate Coker's contract, exercising what sources say is a buyout in the neighborhood of $3 million.

Larry Coker was a no-show Monday for an Atlanta Touchdown Club meeting at which he was to be the keynote speaker. Coker notified Atlanta Touchdown Club president Rick McCully that he was staying in Miami for practice Monday, saying the team didn't get to practice Sunday because it got back from Louisville too late.

Florida State coaches acknowledged Monday that they are concerned about the way their offense sputtered in Drew Weatherford's second season as a starter, but they are no closer to giving Xavier Lee a chance. Much of the focus has shifted to Lee, who was frustrated on the sideline during the second half of Saturday's loss to Clemson. He sat by himself with a towel over his head for much of the third quarter.
