Contrary to an Internet report, there is no language in Georgia football coach Mark Richt's contract that would allow him to leave for Miami, his alma mater. If Richt opts to terminate his eight-year contract on or before Dec. 31, 2010, he must pay the school's athletics association the amount of his salary and compensation package for each year remaining on the contract. Richt is due no less than $1.7 million annually. Four-plus months before national signing day, Georgia Tech and Georgia both have top 10 recruiting classes. So says Scout.com, which on Thursday listed the Yellow Jackets' class No. 6 and the Bulldogs' haul No. 7 in its early rankings. At the minimum, Florida's suspended Marcus Thomas will miss games against Kentucky and Alabama. However, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley could elect to uphold the tackle's appeal in order to allow him to play against LSU, Auburn and Georgia. Florida receiver Percy Harvin practiced for the first time Thursday after sustaining a left high-ankle sprain against Tennessee. He ran in the stadium before practicing minimally and will be a game-time decision against Kentucky, coach Urban Meyer said. New Kansas State coach Ron Prince has given senior associate athletic director Jim Epps the green light to locate big-name opponents for future home-and-home series. Epps rattled off multiple schools he has in mind for future games. A partial list: Florida State, Virginia Tech, Purdue, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, North Carolina State, TCU, Washington, Syracuse, Illinois and Kentucky. After the Horned Frogs' gutty 12-3 victory against then-No. 24 Texas Tech last Saturday, TCU Coach Gary Patterson was adamant about his team receiving more respect -- not nationally, but locally. Of the 103 players listed in TCU's media guide, all but 19 hail from Texas. Ayodele Coker, a 6-10, 270-pound Nigerian from South Kent (Conn.) School, has Indiana among his final three possible college choices. Coker narrowed his choices to Pittsburgh, St. John's and Indiana. He plans to make official visits to all three in three consecutive weekends. Coker also had a scholarship offer from Kentucky but did not include the Wildcats in his list of finalists. Memphis University School linebacker John Stokes became the first four-star recruit in three years to commit to Vanderbilt after he notified the Commodores coaching staff earlier this week he would sign with the program in February 2007. Connecticut safety Marvin Taylor has been thrown off the football team following his arrest on larceny charges. Police accused Taylor of obtaining a credit card number and using it for several purchases without the owner's consent. The arrest was Taylor's second in just over a year. | |||||||
