But Roush says he's not worried and says he doesn't really have to make a call until February. That may give Todd Kluever a second chance. There will likely be increased pressure on Brian France, NASCAR's CEO, to add a victory bonus to next year's Chase, to allow a team to charge back into contention with a flurry of wins. Put a 25-point bonus on winning, another 25-point bonus for leading the most laps, and that would give drivers a chance to fight back into the Chase. Mike Bliss is hoping to claim $1.15 million in salary, and possibly more in damages, in a dispute with Haas CNC Racing scheduled for trial Oct. 2 in North Carolina Superior Court in Charlotte, according to a story in NASCAR Scene. In his complaint, Bliss said he thought in August 2005 he was going to continue to drive the Haas CNC Racing Nextel Cup car in 2006, so he didn't pursue a possible opportunity to drive for another team. Veteran Derrike Cope will drive the Key Motorsports entry in the Craftsman Truck Series race Oct. 7 at Talladega Superspeedway. The team has hired Cope in an effort to climb into the top 30 in owner points in the series. Cope must qualify the No. 40 truck based on speed since the team is currently outside that guaranteed group. Tony Stewart's crew chief says that not being in the Chase For The Nextel Cup alters his job slightly. Greg Zipadelli is not buying completely into the theory that the final 10 races of the season can be used as a rebuilding tool for the next season. He says the team is able to do more research and development now. If it was in the Chase, everything would be focused on making sure something isn't left undone. Chad Blount will drive the No. 61 Oak Gloves Dodge and Carl Long will drive the No. 34 Chevrolet for Front Row Motorsports this weekend at Chicagoland. Front Row Motorsports driver Chad Chaffin is still in the fold at FRM, but has taken a full time ride in the No. 59 Harris Trucking Motorsports Truck in the Craftsman Truck Series. Due to scheduling conflicts he will be forced to miss three Nextel Cup starts for FRM. Race fans will see the first of many improvements at Michigan International Speedway in 2007, starting with the enhancement of two grandstands in Turn One, track President Roger Curtis announced today. MIS will replace two existing grandstands in Turn One with new, fan friendly grandstands. The new grandstands will offer race fans premium seating and amazing sightlines of the two-mile oval. Ergon, Inc. has announced a one race sponsorship with Tony Clements Racing. The Jackson, Miss.-based corporation will adorn the Pontiac to be driven by Marc Mitchell in the Food World 250 ARCA/Remax Series event next weekend at Talladega. Ergon's asphalt and emulsions segment supplies the product used for paving prominent stock car racing speedways in America. The massive repaving of the 2.66 mile Talladega Superspeedway was done with Ergon asphalt. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
