Jay Cutler will replace Jake Plummer as the Broncos' quarterback starting today, when the players begin preparation for their game Sunday night against Seattle. Although Cutler has an arm strong enough to throw a 20-yard out pattern to a closely guarded receiver, don't be surprised if the Broncos initially ask him to manage a basic ball- control game. Rather than dump Randy Moss, watch the Raiders try to appease him in the off-season by bringing in a former Marshall quarterback in soon-to-be-available Jacksonville passer Byron Leftwich. At the first sign of trouble the true feelings about coach Tom Coughlin from the majority of the Giants' locker room would surface and boil over. And in the event the Giants' season were to suffer a complete collapse, well, the threat of a mutiny would swirl. Is Plaxico Burress the next Giants controversy? The Giants sure hope not, but when your No. 1 receiver quits on a route, which results in an interception, it'll make headlines. Everything seemed to be going the Giants way until that series, when Burress essentially quit on the route allowing Titans cornerback Pacman Jones to pick it off and change the tide of the game. The Steelers' bad season could be good for the coaching prospects of Steelers assistants Russ Grimm and Ken Whisenhunt, and it should prompt an early decision by coach Bill Cowher and Art Rooney on Cowher's future. As Falcons players walked off the field Sunday, fans lustily booed the team. A frustrated Michael Vick shouted at fans and then issued an obscene gesture, first with one hand, then the other. Because Baltimore running back Jamal Lewis is due a $5 million bonus this March, there is a strong likelihood that Lewis will be released before that time and become a free agent again. 1 of 2 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
