DM: This much I'm sure of. Chances for winning = 1 - (# of math students playing)/ (# of math students cheering). That's a fraction.

SIOC: OK, I'm lost, but then again, I could never pass pre-calc. You were also in Alpha Delta Pi at UCLA. What were those days like? Any crazy sorority stories you can tell the kids about?

DM: Actually, as much as I liked my friends in the sorority, I never quite got the "scene." I went to about one frat party a year. A year seemed to be enough time for me to forget how much I didn't like frat parties, and my friends would eventually convince me to go to one. Cheap beer, guys looking for a quick hook-up, and girls playing "dumb" to get in on the hook-up. I just never got into it. Though I'll admit that I do quite like drinks that come in coconut shells. So there's always that.

SIOC: C'mon, surely you made time to close the books and cause some trouble.

DM: If I had caused any trouble worth mentioning, you would have read about it in Star Magazine, which is probably why I didn't cause any trouble worth mentioning.

SIOC: I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering you were the head of your sorority's study group program. So, would you ever consider teaching as a career if you ever gave up acting?

DM: I'm afraid I would be too high in demand; it just wouldn't be fair to all the other math teachers. I'm just kidding. I love teaching online at my website and soon I'll be writing a math book. I love to teach math. I just don't have time for a full-time teaching gig. Acting is way too time-consuming.

SIOC: Fair enough, but I think our educational system is in need of more hot teachers that could pose in Stuff like you did last July. Do the kids out there have a chance of seeing that anytime soon?

DM: I suppose the probability of that is 1-E. E being an infinitesimal.

SIOC: 1-E, huh? So you're telling me there's a chance. I read the paper you coauthored at UCLA, Percolation and Gibbs State Multiplicity for Ferromagnetic Ashkin-Teller Models in Two Dimensions, and I have to ask, is your dream guy more like Paul Erdös or Paul Walker?

DM: You are too funny. Did you know that there is such thing as an Erdös number, like a Kevin Bacon number? My Kevin Bacon number is 2, and my Erdös number is 4. I'm one of the only people that even has an Erdös-Bacon number, and that number is 6. There's a website about this somewhere, I think.

SIOC: Nice. I've always had a thing for people with Erdos-Bacon numbers.  Anyway, could you talk about what you are working on these days? There are a lot of college students out there (guilty as charged) that still can't get over their crush on Winnie Cooper?

DM: I just did a guest appearance on of How I Met Your Mother that aired Monday night on CBS. I've been keeping busy mostly with TV work, but I recently completed an indie film called Hack! with William Forsythe which should come out this summer or fall, so stay tuned for more details. Also, much later this year, you'll see a yoga/mediation DVD come out called Daily Dose of Dharma with me doing yoga. My mom's a meditation instructor, so she teaches the meditation and I do all the yoga poses. We shot it in Hawaii and it looks beautiful. The release should be for the holidays, so look for it around November or December.

SIOC: We'll be on the lookout for that. Thanks, Danica, and good luck this weekend with your Bruins.

DM: Thanks, and go Bruins!
