The financial arrangement by which USC receiver Dwayne Jarrett shared an apartment with former quarterback Matt Leinart last season might constitute an NCAA violation and force him to sit out a portion of next season. Leinart's father told The Times on Saturday that Jarrett paid only $650 of the $3,866-a-month lease on the upscale apartment. Bob Leinart said his son also paid $650, and he picked up the rest.

The NBA's early entry list won't be released until later this week, but all indications from Florida are that Joakim Noah will stick around for another season with the Gators.

A combination of injuries and a lack of progress resulted in 6-10, 240-pound Cem Dinc playing in just three games for Indiana last season. He scored three points in 12 minutes of action. Dinc still thinks he has a shot to play in the NBA now. In an e-mail from his parents' home in Germany, Dinc said Sunday he will enter the 2006 NBA draft without hiring an agent. The deadline for underclassmen to enter the draft was Saturday.

Mike Paulus of Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, N.Y., the No. 2 quarterback in the class of 2007 according to recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, told USA TODAY on Friday afternoon that he has verbally committed to play football at the University of North Carolina.

Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema learned that his first staff scored a recruiting victory over Notre Dame when Josh Oglesby, a 6-foot-8, 312-pound junior offensive tackle from St. Francis High School (Wisc.) had given his oral commitment for UW's 2007 freshman class.

Oklahoma lost another offensive lineman when freshman center Chad Roark was released from the team by head coach Bob Stoops. Roark intends to transfer to Nebraska, where his brother attends school and plays on the Cornhuskers football team. Roark, who graduated from high school in December, spent the spring practicing part-time with the OU first team. He never played in a game. Roark declined to comment on specifics, but told The Oklahoman he wasn't happy at OU.

Ohio State walk-on Tyson Gentry, hospitalized since he was injured two weeks ago in spring practice, is able to move his arms and shows other signs of improvement, his parents said Friday in a statement. Bob and Gloria Gentry did not clarify whether Gentry was partially paralyzed. Ohio State athletics spokesman Steve Snapp said he did not have information on whether Gentry could move his legs. Gentry has gone through two neck operations at Ohio State University Medical Center. This week he was moved to a rehabilitation program.

Joe Monty, who started 12 games at defensive end for Wisconsin as a junior last season, was hospitalized with serious facial injuries early Friday after being involved in a motor vehicle accident on campus. Monty was driving alone on a moped when he slammed into the rear of a car shortly before 2 a.m. Friday.

A disappointing 2005 season for the Michigan football team was reflected in the 2006 NFL draft. The Wolverines produced their lowest-rated draft class since 1989, the last time until this year that a Michigan player was not picked in the first three rounds.
