Arizona State coach Herb Sendek has signed his first recruit in Jerren Shipp, a shooting guard from Los Angeles and the younger brother of UCLA's Josh Shipp. Jerren Shipp, listed anywhere from 6 feet 3 to 6-5, averaged 17 points and six rebounds last season at Fairfax High. Several Pac-10 schools, including UCLA, recruited him, but he said he didn't want to play on the same team as Josh, a sophomore for the Bruins last season.

Xavier's Sean Miller and Bradley's Jim Les have been mentioned as potential candidates for the coaching job at North Carolina State, and there could be another mid-major candidate.

Oklahoma released three basketball recruits from national letters of intent they signed when Kelvin Sampson was the Sooners head coach. They are guard Scottie Reynolds and forwards Damion James and Jeremy Mayfield.

On the heels of Tennessee senior linebacker Marvin Mitchell being indefinitely suspended from the team, Coach Phillip Fulmer has permanently dismissed redshirt freshman defensive lineman Raymond Henderson. Part of Fulmer's ire during Monday night's meeting was also directed at Henderson for what Fulmer called an "inappropriate" comment Henderson made to a woman and her adolescent daughter on Saturday at a restaurant. Fulmer added that it wasn't Henderson's first bout with trouble.

Tennessee men's basketball Coach Bruce Pearl, working methodically to find a replacement for Scott Edgar on the staff, turned his attention Wednesday to former Mississippi Coach Rod Barnes. Barnes was on campus formally interviewing for the job. He had lunch with Pearl, as well as all of the Vols' assistants.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office has received some results from a police investigation involving USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, even as detectives continue to work the case, law enforcement officials said Wednesday. Sanchez, 19, was arrested April 26 after a female USC student told police he had sexually assaulted her. Athletic director Mike Garrett sent a memo to all USC coaches instruction them to address behavior issues with their athletes.

Prosecutors will recommend that Oklahoma State basketball coach Eddie Sutton be offered a one-year deferred sentence at his arraignment on Friday in Stillwater, Okla., on an aggravated drunken driving charge.

Steve Holdren will transfer from South Dakota State and join the Illinois basketball team as a walk-on in the 2007-08 season. The 6-foot-5 forward missed most of last season with a knee injury. Holdren must sit out the 2005-07 season. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

New men's basketball coach Matt Doherty, along with an SMU senior associate athletic director, met with 14 community leaders for 90 minutes to talk about rebuilding the fractured relationship between the school and the South Dallas area.
