Tradition is fading in the Big Ten. The latest casualty is the Michigan-Ohio State game, which will be played at 3:30 p.m. this year in Columbus on ABC, the conference announced Tuesday. The rivalry game usually kicks off at noon or 1 p.m. but, with the Big Ten playing a number of its games in the late afternoon or at night this year, this is the logical next step. Stephen Dodson, a redshirt Georgia freshman pitcher, hopped a fence at Foley Field in the wee hours Sunday morning, stole an NCAA baseball championship banner hanging on the third-base side fence and ran back to his apartment just across the street from the stadium, according to his father and police reports. Dodson was suspended from the team as per athletics department policy regarding alcohol-related arrests. He will not accompany the Bulldogs to Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series. Vanderbilt football Coach Bobby Johnson said Tuesday junior defensive end David Carter will transfer. Carter, who told the Commodores staff he is leaving for personal reasons, was a reserve player and combined for 18 total tackles in his Vanderbilt career. Jay Murphy will not have his contract renewed as Cleveland State's baseball coach, the school announced Monday. Murphy posted a 184-347 record in 10 seasons. He came to Cleveland State in 1997 after compiling a 116-134-1 mark in five seasons at George Washington. | |||
