Summertime BluesBored on campus? Here are some things to keep you busyPosted: Wednesday July 5, 2006 4:51PM; Updated: Friday July 7, 2006 3:03PM
Yes, we know summer is dead and being stuck on campus is comparable to a 90-day prison sentence. But we're here to help as we present SIOC's best summer campus activites. 1. Notre Dame: The Horseshoe Intramurals. 2. University of Tennessee: Ruby Tuesday. This is the original restaurant, started by frat brothers, that is now a international chain. 3. University of Florida: Visit the world's busiest Domino's Pizza on SW 13th Street in Gainesville. It's open every day until 4 a.m. 4. Purdue University: Cool off with a fountain run, the traditional dash 5. University of Mississippi: The Square Challenge requires you to have a beer at every local bar in one outing. 6. Syracuse University: Hit up Marshall Street at night -- it's home to numerous bars, clubs, eateries, and shops that are open to 4 a.m. and later --and see if you get on the university's Marshall Street Cam. 7. UCLA: Grab a drink in the hip Westwood Village and celebrity watch while countless Hollywood movie premieres take place at the Bruin Theatre and the Fox Village Theatre across from campus. 8. Iowa State University: Try to get lucky at midnight under the Campanile, the campus bell tower. But the odds of your finding a partner who isn't "country" are slim to none. If that bothers you, go to the Free Speech Zone -- a place on campus designed for students to freely speak their minds about any and everything -- and vent about your miserable situation. 9. University of Illinois: Spend your free time "reading" every issue of Playboy that has come out. Hugh Hefner donated all of his to the university. 10. University of Minnesota: Go to Dinkytown and pay a visit to the Kitty Kat Club. Don't get too excited. It's only a music bar. 11. Holy Cross: Visit the Exorcism Room on the fifth floor of Fenwick Hall. Despite its creepy reputation, it is really a roller disco for the Jesuits. 12. Vanderbilt: Head to the Vanderbubble to meet a Vandygirl wearing Vandypants. 13. Princeton: Is partying ruining your threads? Only at Princeton can you find a state-of-the-art beer jacket designed by these ivy leaguers to protect their clothing from beer stains. Brilliant. It's an investment that makes a trip to New Jersey worthwhile. 14. UC Santa Barbara: It was rated as the No. 2 party school by Playboy this year. Is it really necessary to say more? 15. Ohio University: The Summer Cornhole Tournament is an Ohio phenomenon in which players try to throw cloth bags filled with corn into a goal. 16. Furman: You can't leave without experiencing Chicken Finger Tuesday in the Daniel Dining Hall. If you can't make that one, aim for Quesadilla Thursday. They're the most anticipated dining events on campus. 17. Central Florida: Head to Wackadoo's for $1 beers and a Fat Ass Burger. To work off the calories, the school's awesome recreation facility stands ready and waiting with an exotic-looking pool, a rock climbing tower, an obstacle course and a weight room that puts Gold's Gym to shame. 18. Rice: Make sure you attend Baker 13, where at 10 p.m. on the 13th and 31st of every month, students roam the campus clad in nothing but shaving cream. 19. University of Chicago: Summer Breeze is a huge spring concert festival that has brought in names like George Clinton. 20. UNC-Chapel Hill: He's Not Here is one of the best bars on Franklin St. to catch former UNC athletes kicking it with the current students. Of course, if you want to see them sober, you're S.O.L. | |||||||||||
