Durham police better be ready when J.J. Redick returns to visit Duke. The university has announced that it will cut the price of on-campus kegs by more than 50 percent this year. The school hopes keg events will be a cheap way to bring the students together, but the goal is "not to blanket the campus with more drinking." It appears that Duke has decided that the best way to stop alcohol-fueled misconduct off campus is to have students get loaded on campus.

College football traditions can be a peculiar thing. Last weekend, LSU defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in what might have been the world's largest pajama party thanks to the Tiger fans' tradition of wearing pajama pants to the team's first home game. Meanwhile, over at Colorado State, the custom is for fans to shake their keys and keychains every time the Rams kick off. These are all great traditions, but none are as time-honored as Florida State's: having a star player arrested during the first month of each season.

Southern Mississippi couldn't defeat the University of Florida on the football field last Saturday, but don't worry, Golden Eagles fans. The school paper has plenty of coverage of a computer simulation of the game in which Southern Miss. did win. I'm not sure if this qualifies as good journalism, but it might be something the San Francisco Chronicle should look into for their 49ers coverage this season.

In other news... The Red Hot Chili Peppers were bumped for an Iowa basketball practice ... The Fordham University ROTC office takes after Mel Gibson ... Georgia football players love bicycles ... Being a dean isn't as safe as you think ... The Nebraska Spirit Squad doesn't like criminal records ... Iowa State is combining the excitement of college football with the thrill of public safety.
