Best place to spot celebrities: In all honesty, we're not accustomed to seeing celebrities on a day-to-day basis, but you can often catch Counting Crows singer Adam Duritz at Haas Pavilion for women's volleyball and basketball games and at Memorial Stadium for football games.

Best sports team nobody knows about: The rugby program under the legendary Jack Clark. While rugby is not as big a spectator sport as, say, football and basketball, everyone should know that Cal has the nation's best rugby team -- a defending national championship team that won its 22nd title in 27 years this past spring.

Best place to do some late-night studying: Au Coquelet on Shattuck and Milvia. It has a nice café atmosphere, and it's open until 2 a.m. A lot of students go to study, but because it is slightly removed from campus, it's not too packed at nights. Good food, too, and easy on the wallet.

Best place to cuddle up with a book: Morrison Library in Doe. It has a large, two-story room with couches and recliners in addition to work desks. Besides being a really cool antique-looking room, it's a cozy, quiet place to read, relax between classes or do what at least two thirds of the room is doing: sleep.

Best place to satisfy late-night munchies: Top Dog. Another NorCal specialty, Top Dog is a good place to head if you want a good hot dog anytime before 2 a.m. It's quick, cheap and satisfying, although it gets pretty packed the nearer it gets to closing time. I like the lemon chicken, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Best place to get a good burrito: Mario's on Telegraph Avenue. Northern California isn't exactly known for its quality Mexican food, but Mario's makes the cut. Close to campus, sizable portions and prices college students can afford.

Best place to take your date: Lawrence Hall of Science. Up a hill a little away from campus, and it has a great view of the Bay. It makes for a pretty romantic atmosphere, which clever guys have been known to take advantage of.

Best place for a guy's night out: Thalassa on Shattuck Avenue. The pool hall and bar is a pretty chill place to spend a weeknight out, although things can get crazy later in the evening. Bonus: All-Star couple offensive lineman Erik Robertson and pitcher Kristina Thorson were recently spotted there.

Best place to get a tan: Memorial Glade, a big grassy area in front of Doe Library. On a sunny day it's not uncommon to see students throwing Frisbees, playing fetch with their dogs, having picnics or just lying down and reading. Of course, it's not always sunny in Berkeley.

Best place to satisfy your sweet tooth No. 1: Yogurt Park. It's probably one of the most popular places in Berkeley, enough to have spurred the creation of a "Yogurt Park is my second home" Facebook group. Toppings are key.

Best place to satisfy your sweet tooth No. 2: Gelato Naia. It's on campus, and anytime you're feeling like gelato instead of soft serve, Naia offers something like 30 flavors -- and your gelato experience won't be complete until you ask for samples of every single available flavor. It's also open late, and it's a nice place to relax and eat, hang out or study.

Best way to get in shape: Hike up to the Big C. It's not easy, but by the time you make it up there, you'll be able to enjoy a great view in what is cool weather most of the year.

Best place to get a fancy meal: Chez Panisse on Shattuck Avenue. It was named Best Restaurant in America by Gourmet in 2001, and widely acclaimed chef Alice Waters has received many awards, including Best Chef in America by the James Beard Foundation in 1992. Bill Clinton has been rumored to eat here during his visits to Berkeley.

I say, if it's good enough for a former United States President, Berkeley must be doing something right.
