College (cont.)Posted: Tuesday September 26, 2006 10:08AM; Updated: Tuesday September 26, 2006 10:08AM It appears likely that true freshman Isiah "Juice" Williams will start at quarterback for Illinois on Saturday at Michigan State, but coach Ron Zook wants to evaluate the situation before making a formal announcement. Coach Urban Meyer expects freshman receiver Percy Harvin to be close to full speed against Alabama on Saturday. Also, nothing has changed on the Marcus Thomas front. The senior defensive tackle is still indefinitely suspended for a second substance-abuse violation. The hamstring injury Northwestern starter Mike Kafka suffered late in Friday's loss at Nevada is serious enough to put his status in question. Now Kafka has four days to show coach Pat Fitzgerald he's healthy enough to set up and throw and be a threat to run. Florida State's fears were confirmed Monday when an MRI revealed that promising freshman linebacker Marcus Ball will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Pitt starting defensive end Doug Fulmer is out for the season because of a left ankle injury that will require surgery tomorrow. Coach Dave Wannstedt said junior Chris McKillop will move from left end to the right end spot in place of Fulmer. Conference USA announced Monday that the instant-replay official who handled Saturday's game between Houston and Oklahoma State has been suspended for overturning a call that was not reviewable under the rules. | |||
