There were rumors this month that Miami had offered Michael Jordan's son, Jeff, a scholarship. He has four schools on his list: Loyola, Davidson, Illinois State and UIC. He isn't saying, but Loyola is considered the leader. A Loyola assistant was chatting with Jeff's mom, Juanita, after Friday's game.

Consultant Chuck Neinas is crafting a plan for Alabama's vacant head football coaching position in case Miami coach Nick Saban says no, according to sources. Saban remains atop Alabama's wish list despite several denials. Jim Grobe of Wake Forest and Navy's Paul Johnson remain on Alabama's radar.

Former Texas quarterback Jevan Snead said Wednesday that he has narrowed his college choices to Mississippi, TCU and Houston and would like to decide by Monday.

Rutgers landed one of its top remaining in-state targets when it received a verbal commitment from Alex Silvestro of Paulsboro late Tuesday night. Silvestro, an athletic 6-4, 225-pound defensive end, chose Rutgers over seven other schools that offered a scholarship, including West Virginia, Tennessee and Iowa.

Texas walk-on quarterback Matt McCoy is working with the first team during Alamo Bowl preparations as the Longhorns wait for starter Colt McCoy to be cleared by team doctors, coach Mack Brown said Wednesday. Brown expects Colt McCoy to be cleared to play, but a decision likely won't be made until the week of the game.

An advisory sent to numerous media outlets Wednesday stated that Martez Wilson, the highest-rated player in Illinois, and Bloomington Central Catholic's Josh Brent would reveal their destinations during a Dec. 21 news conference. Simeon High School offensive line coach Paul Phillips didn't directly confirm that Wilson would commit orally to Illinois, but he said the school has told Wilson he will be able to play both offense and defense.
