Sun Bowl Because of the importance of this game, Oregon State is bringing in former Beaver Chad Johnson to work with the team's receivers on their touchdown celebrations. Liberty Bowl This game gives Tennessee football fans another chance to brag to Houston residents that they have Vince Young. Insight Bowl This is one of the two bowls that will air on the NFL Network. Apparently, the NFL's strategy is to create demand for their usual product by showing viewers how dull the alternatives are. Champs Sports Bowl Maryland missed a chance to go to the ACC championship game when they lost their season finale to Wake Forest. However, Terps coach Ralph "Fridge" Friedgen saw the loss as an opportunity. Specifically, he saw it as an opportunity to go to Orlando and sample the "foods of the world" exhibit at Epcot Center. Meineke Car Care Tom O'Brien's decision to take the NC State coaching job leaves Boston College without a coach. BC officials say the situation is under control because Jim Mora Jr. has told them he will leave the Falcons to take over the Eagles. Alamo Bowl Former Texas running back Ricky Williams really wants Texas to beat Iowa. Not only is it an important bowl game for his Longhorns, but Williams is incensed that Iowa police recently seized 220 pounds of marijuana. Chick-fil-A Bowl Virginia Tech's bowl game last season was marred by Marcus Vick's infamous stomping incident. To keep Vick from causing any problems as a sideline spectator this year, the team has hired a group of 16-year old girls to distract him while the game is on. MPC Computers Bowl One reason the bowl season is so exciting is all the "firsts" it brings to college football. For example, this is Nevada's first game against Miami and first bowl gagainst a team from a BCS conference. For Miami, this game represents the school's first opportunity to get into a brawl on a blue field. Outback Bowl Joe Paterno hopes to return to the sideline after his broken leg forced him to coach Penn State's final regular-season game from the press box. Paterno had a tough time, mostly because a pair of glasses with lenses thick enough to allow him to see the field from way up there has yet to be invented. Cotton Bowl The last time Auburn played in the Cotton Bowl, Heisman Trophy-winner Bo Jackson rushed for 129 yards in his final college game. Current Auburn running back Kenny Irons hopes to follow in Jackson's footsteps by parlaying Cotton Bowl success into an unstoppable video game version of himself. Gator Bowl It's been a good month for Mountaineer football. Rich Rodriguez will stay at West Virginia after turning down an offer to coach Alabama, and former Mountaineer Chris Henry had two more Bengals teammates take up his hobby of getting arrested. Capital One Bowl Arkansas running back Darren McFadden is one of the most versatile players in college football. Not only does he run, catch, throw, and return kicks, but McFadden also found the team a great hotel deal in Orlando. Rose Bowl As is customary for any big USC football game, the team's boosters will give free houses to all Trojans who score a touchdown. Fiesta Bowl Boise State coach Chris Peterson's new book If My Team Won All Its Games and Didn't Get A Chance To Play For the National Championship: Here's How It Happened hits stores next month. Orange Bowl When first told that Wake Forest had won the ACC title, Orange Bowl officials took it as a joke and went ahead and invited Virginia Tech to play in this game. Sugar Bowl Just three days after the football team plays in the Sugar Bowl, theLSU spirit squad will head to Disney World to compete in the Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship. That kind of distraction for the spirit squad would very likely hurt the LSU football team against a BCS-quality opponent. Fortunately for the Tigers, they're playing Notre Dame. International Bowl Although this is the first bowl game not played on U.S. soil since the 1937 Bacardi Bowl in Havana, Cuba, it will not get much media coverage. In order to extract as much money as possible from Canada, the NCAA convinced our northern neighbor that this is America's most important bowl, and asked the American media not to the spoil the ruse by discussing its insignificance. GMAC Bowl GMAC is an offshoot of General Motors that offers financial services. Among the financial services offered by GMAC are banking, business financing and paying mediocre football teams $750,000 apiece to play in this game. BCS National Championship Troy Smith had to ship his Heisman Trophy home because airport security wouldn't allow him to bring it on the plane. The security staff was extremely suspicious of Smith after hearing reports of him as the leader of a deadly aerial attack. 2 of 2 | |||||||
