RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) -- Mexican champion Pachuca and Chilean champion Colo Colo went on goal sprees to ease into the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals.

Pachuca thumped nine-man Tolima 5-1 for a 6-3 aggregate win in its second round matchup while Colo Colo hammered Costa Rica's Alajuelense 7-2 to complete an 11-2 success, the biggest in the competition's history.

Paul Aguilar headed an early goal for Pachuca, which went further ahead after halftime through Juan Carlos Cacho and Colombian defender Aquivaldo Mosquera.

Tolima, which leads the Colombian championship, had Dumar Rueda sent off on the hour but stayed in the hunt when Cesar Rivas pulled one back in the 62nd minute.

The Beavers settled the tie with goals from Colombian Andres Chitiva and Marvin Cabrera in the last 10 minutes.

Striker Humberto Suazo and defender Arturo Vidal scored twice for Colo Colo while Rolando Fonseca replied with two of his own for Alajuelense in a six-goal first half in Santiago.

Alexis Sanchez, Matias Fernandez and Miguel Aceval added three more for the Chileans after the break while the hapless visitors had Cristian Montero and Roberto Mudarra sent off.

Mexico's Toluca also went through by winning 2-0 away to Ecuadorean army club El Nacional in Quito.
