Wheelchair player banned for dopingPosted: Thursday March 2, 2006 3:59PM; Updated: Thursday March 2, 2006 7:11PM LONDON (AP) -- Wheelchair tennis player Ilanit Fridman of Israel has been suspended one month after testing positive for a banned substance that is used to treat asthma. The 29-year-old player tested positive for terbutaline at the U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships on Oct. 5 in San Diego, the International Tennis Federation said Thursday. While Fridman committed a doping offense, the tribunal found no intent to use the drug to enhance performance, which would have carried a two-year ban. The ITF said Fridman didn't have a "therapeutic use exemption." The ruling comes two days after the ITF suspended American wheelchair player David Buck 31/2 months for a positive cannabis test. |
