1. Jim Furyk
The scrappiest player in golf finally closes the deal with an OT win at Wachovia. I'm not sure who was happier to see him finally win something -- Furyk's wife or U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman.

2. Cristie Kerr
In claiming the Franklin American Mortgage Championship, the spicy 28-year-old won her sixth LPGA event in the last 2½ years. Can someone please explain to me how she's only 5th in the world ranking, behind someone named Yuri Fudoh?

3. Cruden Bay
With the announcement that the 2011 Walker Cup will be played at Royal Aberdeen, the world may finally discover Cruden Bay, which is just down the road. A wondrous, quirky piece of unparalleled linksland, CB is my favorite golf course in Scotland.

4. Italian stallions
Nice spring for the Molinari boys of Torino: Eduardo, the U.S. Amateur champ, teed it up with Tiger at the Masters. Now his older brother Francesco, a Euro tour regular, becomes the first Italian in a quarter century to win his national championship. Salud!

5. Martha Burk
No, she didn't move permanently to the Galapagos Islands, it only seemed that way. Now, with Hootie Johnson stepping down as chairman of Augusta National, Burk is suddenly in the news again, hectoring the poor new guy, Billy Payne.

1. Retief Goosen
Tied for the lead at Wachovia with seven holes to play, he skidded to 10th after a shaky finish that included an ignominious nine on the final hole. Remember on Saturday night at Pinehurst, when Goose had a three-stroke lead and he was being celebrated as the game's most cold-blooded closer? Since coughing up that lead he's damaged goods on Sundays.

2. Vijay Singh
During a sloppy final round at Wachovia, he shot an even sloppier 81, extending his winless streak to 19 tournaments. A well-traveled 43, Singh is suddenly looking like he's on his last legs.

3. Texas
Phil Mickelson DQ'd from the Nelson and Colonial, citing fatigue. Those recent trips to Sea World and the zoo with his kids must have worn him out.

4. Lorena Ochoa
A Sunday surge put her in contention at the Franklin, but women's golf's most exciting/flammable player drowned a 5-iron going for the green on the par-5 72nd hole, ultimately making par that left her two shots back. Win or lose, Ochoa always makes it exciting.

5. Sony Open/John Deere
Michelle Wie
finally makes a cut against the boys and it's half-a-world away, against a no-name field on a Podunk tour. Tough break for her two regular stops on the PGA Tour.
