MAILBAG
Alan Shipnuck will periodically answer questions from SI.com users in his mailbag.
6. Lucas Glover I love this kid's all-around game, and he's grinding hard for Ryder Cup points. Not to worry, Open Championship experience can be overrated. Tom Watson won the first time he crossed the pond.
5. David Howell I spent a lot of time with Howell recently and have a good feeling about his chances. I like his quiet confidence and, especially, his putting stroke. Hoylake is a mystery to most players, but he's been competing there for years.
4. Geoff Ogilvy No one comes in more confident, or playing better. Links golf is particularly well-suited for his creative short game, which explains how he finished fifth last year in his first Open since reaching the Tour.
3. Darren Clarke It's always been a mystery why this mega-talent doesn't make more noise at the majors. I think next week he will be inspired to play for his ailing wife and the adoring crowds that have rallied around him.
2. Padraig Harrington The game's ultimate grinder comes in hot, having finished fifth at the U.S. Open and second two weeks ago in France. No one ever mentions him in the BPNTHWAM debate, but I think he merits consideration.
1. David Duval Just kidding.
1. Tiger Woods His final three rounds at the Western was the most intense I've seen Tiger in ages. It's funny to say about a two-time winner, but it's not yet clear whether his game is suited for the Open Championship. We know it is built for the Old Course, where he's won both his Claret jugs. But in seven other Open Championship tries as a pro, Woods has been a major factor only twice, in 1998 and 2003. I think Hoylake is where it all comes together for him.
