Easily the most star-studded table was in the middle of the floor as Pierce, Antoine Walker, Shawn Marion, Penny Marshall and Donnie Wahlberg were engaged in a heated battle. Before the game Wahlberg hugged Walker, a former Celtic, and congratulated him on winning a championship. Marion, however, was in no mood for pleasantries; he was in it to win it.

"I play all the time, I was actually practicing on my PSP on the way over here," he said. "I'm like Phil Ivey; he's all business and about winning. That's me. I was actually reading a poker book today, so I'm ready."

Pierce, who admitted he wasn't much of a poker player, was the first to get knocked out. In fact, he got knocked out so early when he went up to the second level to see some of his friends they asked him why he wasn't playing. "I got my a-- knocked out," he said, as he showed Delonte West around the club.

Sitting on the couches near Pierce was Quentin Richardson, who doesn't play poker, and Marshall, who got knocked out soon after Pierce. As Marshall smoked a cigarette under the roofless lounge, she told Richardson that things were going to get better for the Knicks. After all, how could they get much worse?

"I said if Isiah [Thomas] gets on your case, just call me; I got Isiah's number, don't worry," she said.

"This was the craziest year of my career," said Richardson. "I've had some crazy years here in L.A. but this was something else. I'll just say it was different."

John Salley, Mad TV's Nicole Sullivan and Wahlberg made the final table and were fairly serious about the game at hand until the emcee, Caprice Winston, got down on one knee next to the table and proposed to his girlfriend, Stacy Darling, the sister of Baltimore Ravens receiver Devard Darling. While Salley held the microphone, Winston had arguably the most romantic proposal ever. "Baby, I don't have a ring for you right now, but will you f---ing marry me in this f---ing club?" After a stunned Darling said yes, The Avalon erupted in applause as the two made out. "I can't believe he did that," Darling said afterward. "We met at Las Palmas awhile back and he was chasing me for years and I didn't like him and now look at us."

The fact that Salley ended up winning the poker tournament was almost anticlimactic after the engagement, but the gambling didn't stop after the poker tournament as a handful of roulette, blackjack and craps table were set up around the club. Davis ruled the craps table, flipping the dice every which way to the delight or disappointment of his friends who were placing chips all over the table. While Davis kept rolling the dice and telling security to let all the girls waiting outside in, Sam Cassell showed up fashionably late and sat down for a drink with Marshall, who was thrilled that Cassell was staying in town as a Clipper.

"He kept calling and he was upset during negotiations and I said 'it's business, it's nothing personal; it's business, just counter now,' and they settled somewhere in the middle," she said. "She's the reason why I came back," said Cassell as he patted Marshall on the knee. "She's the reason."

While Cassell was happy to be back in Los Angeles, Darius Miles, who was rolling with his former running mate Quentin Richardson and Larry Hughes, said he wouldn't mind coming back to L.A., or any team that wanted him for that matter.

"I just want to win," Miles said. "I'm always stuck on rebuilding teams. I've been in the league six years and I'm tired of losing. I hate losing. I just want to make a difference on a team that wants to win. I think I could do some big things in this league. All I need is a chance."
