Tom Brady has been grabbing headlines for his unusually feisty comments this week directed towards the Miami Dolphins ("They're 6-7 and we're 9-4. So you tell me who's got it more figured out.") and his own team ("I think this team has to listen more to what the coach says."). Now we might finally have some explanation for uncharacteristically quotable Brady.

Brady and actress Bridget Moynahan ended their three-year relationship recently. Reports of the split included clichéd quotes from Moynahan's publicist saying that the breakup was amicable and a random Brady friend saying the two were focusing on their own careers. (Don't all these stories have to include quotes from a publicist and an unnamed friend?) Here's hoping that Brady at least has broken out of the clichéd quote department now that he's a free agent.

• While Troy Smith may have had a hard time getting his Heisman Trophy past airport security he had no trouble getting it past the security guards at Jay-Z's 40/40 club where Smith celebrated his big night with family and friends. Unlike last year's post-Heisman bash at Marquee there were no sightings of Texas coeds with digital cameras.

• Speaking of the Marquee, NASCAR recently held their Nextel Cup Series Champion's Party at the New York hotspot and welcomed Jaime Foxx, Gina Gershon and Ana Beatriz among others. Before the night was done Foxx got up and serenaded the crowd with a couple songs.

Jeff Gordon and his Belgian model wife, Ingrid Vandebosch, were also at the party and the couple recently announced that they were expecting their first child in July. But don't expect Gordan to be doing doughnuts in a minivan anytime soon. "I'm not getting a minivan," said Gordon. "I'll never get rid of my toys."

Rick Fox has had little trouble finding acting roles since retiring from the NBA three years ago. The former Laker has recently starred in One Tree Hill, Love Inc. and the film Mini's First Time. The Boston Herald now reports that Fox is gearing up for the racy first episode of Courtney Cox's upcoming FX series Dirt, where he will play a cheating NBA star who hooks up with a blonde bombshell. Being the character actor that he is, Fox has already done some research on the role.

Nick Lachey made news this week when he reportedly called up ex-wife Jessica Simpson, who's not dating Tony Romo by the way, to tell her that he plans on marrying current girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo, who he took to the USC-Notre Dame game last month. While he hopes his second go-around down the aisle lasts longer than the first, Lachey has already tied the knot with his second sports team in a year. After helping start the Hollywood Fame, a new basketball team in the American Basketball Association, Lachey recently became part owner of the Tacoma Rainiers franchise, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Lachey, who grew up in Cincinnatti, actually tried to become part owner of the Reds a couple years ago when they came up for sale but those plans fell through. "Sports is -- outside of entertainment -- my passion," said Lachey. "Clearly I'm not going to be playing for anybody in my lifetime, so to be involved on the ownership level is the next best thing."

• Not to be outdone by his modeling teammate Freddie Ljungberg, Arsenal captain Thierry Henry and designer Tommy Hilfiger announced that Henry will be an international band ambassador for Hilfiger. In addition to having a men's collection inspired by Henry, the French striker will also model for Hilfiger's spring and fall 2007 ad campaigns.

• In case you were wondering why the Dallas Mavericks' plane was an hour late getting to New Jersey to pick them up last week after a game against the Nets, Jay-Z and Beyonce had rented the plane to fly to St. Maarten.

Terrell Owens' annual birthday bashes are beginning to rival the massive shindigs that usually take place during Super Bowl week. T.O.'s most recent party was held at Shag, a trendy Hollywood nightclub, and brought out A-listers like Justin Timberlake, Chris Rock and Penny Marshall. Even C-listers like Bobby Brown and Michael Rapaport showed up. Some of the athletes that came out for T.O.'s 33rd birthday party included Shawne Merriman, Edgerrin James, Matt Leinart and Jevon Kearse.

• The NBA unveiled a new program to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation that included wristbands with LeBron James' name and signature on it. While that idea went over well with the foundation the same cannot be said for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which recently pulled its support for a sexy calendar that features racy photos of a dozen Australian women professional golfers. Printing of the calendars were stopped halfway through printing when foundation general manager Sue Murray expressed concern that the photos were too confronting.
