Mayo, North College Hill push win streak to 37 in style

Lawrence North (Indianapolis, Ind.) (16-0)
The Wildcats continued to play great defense as they won twice to extend their winning streak to 32 games. They had just 10 turnovers while holding Warren Central to 25 percent shooting (1-of-18 on 3s) in a 69-38 victory. Seven-foot senior Greg Oden and point guard Mike Conley each scored 21 points in three quarters. Oden also had 14 rebounds. Oden contributed 23 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks in a 76-55 victory over Center Grove. Conley survived a big scare when he was grabbed by the neck and thrown to the floor while headed for a fast-break layup in the second quarter. He made both free throws and finished the game with 22 points, six steals and four assists.

Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) (29-0)
The Warriors' winning streak reached 45 games with a pair of victories. Michael Beasley, who has committed to Charlotte, got a chance to play before his future home fans and put on a brilliant show in a 116-69 rout of Charlotte Providence Day. The 6-10 junior just missed a quadruple double with 36 points, 10 rebounds, 10 blocks and eight assists. Junior guard Nolan Smith had 24 points and five steals, while senior guard Tywon Lawson added 19 points and seven assists. The Warriors shot 61 percent and forced 27 turnovers. Lawson (despite foul trouble) and Beasley each scored 21 points in a 65-56 victory over Episcopal Academy (Pa.) before an estimated 6,000 fans at the Palestra in Philadelphia. Lawson also had six assists and Beasley grabbed 11 rebounds.

North College Hill (Cincinnati) (16-0)
The Trojans continue to put on a show of Barnum and Bailey proportions as they outlasted Beckley Woodrow Wilson (W.Va.) in a 95-88 shootout before a crowd of 6,210 -- which included pro football star Randy Moss -- at the Charleston (W.Va.) Civic Center. Junior guard O.J. Mayo scored 40 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out seven assists. He broke the school's career scoring record (1,847 points) late in the game. He was presented the game ball and had his picture taken with his mother. Then he delighted the big crowd by heaving the ball 20 rows up into the bleachers. Junior forward Bill Walker had 23 points and 12 rebounds, while junior center Keenan Ellis had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Mayo and Walker, who are natives of Huntington, W.Va., combined for 11 of their team's 14 dunks. Chase DeWese scored 29 points, drilling 8-of-11 3s, for the losers. The Trojans' winning streak now stands at 37 games.

DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) (20-0)
Senior guard Nigel Munson averaged 24.5 points as the Stags defeated Gonzaga (D.C.), 74-58, and Bishop McNamara, 68-51. Austin Freeman, a 6-5 junior, added 19 points against McNamara.

Westfield (Spring, Texas) (27-0)
The Mustangs held Baytown Sterling and Lee to 37 points each while averaging 91.5 points in the two games. Senior guard Brandon Dison averaged 19.5 points during the routs. Senior Josten Crow scored 18 points against Sterling.

Artesia (Lakewood, Calif.) (21-1)
The Pioneers breezed past two opponents as underclassmen continued to dominate. Sophomore Malik Story (6-5) scored 25 points in a win over Norwalk, while 6-5 junior James Harden had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Senior point guard Derek Glasser contributed 19 points, surpassing 1,000 for his career. Against La Mirada, Harden had 27 points, Story added 19 (6-of-8 threes) and Glasser dished out a career-high 13 assists.

McKinley (Canton, Ohio) (12-2)
The Bulldogs shot 67 percent and forced 27 turnovers to snap Bedford's 11-game winning streak by a decisive 86-46 margin. Senior guard Marcus Parker sparkled with 18 points (7-of-9 from the field), six steals and four assists. Six-foot-eight senior Raymar Morgan had 22 points and seven rebounds, while 6-6 senior Ricky Jackson added 16 points.

Fairfax (Los Angeles) (17-2)
The Lions won three times and gave coach Harvey Kitani his 500th career victory. Matt Shaw, a 6-9 senior, scored 22 points and senior guard Donovan White had 18 as the Lions leaped past the century mark against outmanned Hamilton. Junior Chace Stanback scored 16 and senior Jerren Shipp had 15 against University. Against Poway, Shipp had 21 points, while Shaw and Stanback had 17 each.

Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.) (23-2)
Seniors Brandan Wright and Joshua Bone led the Eagles to three wins. The 6-10 Wright had 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks in a 66-58 victory over Memphis Ridgeway before a crowd of 5,047 and an ESPNU TV audience, while the 6-2 Bone added 22 points. Wright scored 21 points and Bone had 18 in a defeat of Montgomery Bell Academy.

Vashon (St. Louis) (17-1)
The Wolverines raced past Soldan, 85-45, as 6-6 senior Bobby Hill scored 17 points and 6-7 junior Leon Powell added 15.
