Christ the King captures N.Y. state title, No. 1 ranking

Christ the King (Queens, N.Y.) (30-0)
The Royals defeated No. 3 Murry Bergtraum for the second time, 79-66, to win their fifth State Federation Class AA title and SI.com's final No. 1 ranking. Junior guard Lorin Dixon exploded for a career-high 34 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field and 12 of 13 from the free throw line to earn MVP honors. Six-foot-four senior Tina Charles, a UConn recruit and New York's Miss Basketball, had 16 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks, while 5-11 junior Sky Lindsay added 16 points. In the semifinals the Royals handed Rochester Rush-Henrietta its second loss, 60-46, as Dixon scored 18 points, Charles and Lindsay 17 each. Charles also had four blocks. The Royals finished the season with a school-record 57-game winning streak.

Collins Hill (Suwanee, Ga.) (31-1)
The Eagles won their last 22 games and their second consecutive Class AAAAA state title following a 79-75 overtime loss to No. 1 Christ the King. Junior guard Maya Moore averaged 23.2 points, 11.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting .540 from the field. Senior guard Shantell Black (a Mississippi recruit) averaged 9.2 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals. Black set school records with 175 assists as a senior and had 13 against Christ the King. Jordan Jones, a 5-foot-8 junior, averaged 10.0 points and 3.0 steals.

Murry Bergtraum (New York City) (27-2)
The Blazers suffered a 79-66 loss to No. 1 Christ the King in the State Federation Class AA championship game. Junior guard Erica Morrow scored 28 points and senior guard Epiphanny Prince added 24. The Blazers had won 14 straight following a 65-63 loss to Christ the King.

Troy (Fullerton, Calif.) (33-1)
The Warriors won their final 27 games and second consecutive Division II state title. Arizona recruits Rhaya and Rheya Neabors led the Warriors' balanced attack with 10.6 and 10.4 points per game, respectively. The twins also combined to average more than 11 rebounds and almost six assists. Five-foot-one Sara Yee (Columbia) set a school record with 843 assists. She also averaged 6.3 points and 4.6 steals (15 in one game) and committed just 21 turnovers in 32 games.

Bolingbrook (Bolingbrook, Ill.) (31-2)
The youthful Raiders won a school-record 31 games and their first Class AA state title. Brittney Thomas, a 5-foot-10 junior, averaged 13.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals. Close behind was 5-11 sophomore Miranda Tate with 13.2 points a game. Six-foot-three junior Samantha Woods averaged 12.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 blocks, while 6-foot junior Mauvolyene Adams averaged 11.1 points and 9.7 rebounds.

Lexington Catholic (Lexington, Ky.) (35-1)
The Royals extended their winning streak to 20 games and won their fourth state title with a 69-52 victory over Rose Hill. Junior guard Keyla Snowden had 15 points and four assists to earn MVP honors. Sophomores Natalie Novosel and Briana Green also scored 15 points, while Novosel added 11 rebounds and four assists. Snowden also was high scorer in three earlier victories, including a 22-point effort in a 65-47 win over Louisville Mercy Academy. The Knights' only loss was to Fenwick (Oak Park, Ill.), 69-62, and they have a 57-game winning streak against Kentucky teams.

Southridge (Beaverton, Ore.) (27-2)
The Skyhawks won their last 20 games and second consecutive Class 4A state title. Stanford recruit J.J. Hones averaged 12.6 points, 4.0 assists and 3.1 steals. USC recruit Aarika Hughes averaged 10 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.9 steals. Michelle Jenkins, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, averaged 10.7 points, and 5-10 classmate Alex Earl averaged 9.9 points.

Chief Sealth (Seattle) (29-0)
The tall, underclass-dominated Seahawks raised their winning streak to 36 games and won their second consecutive Class 3A state title. They outscored their opponents by almost 35 points per game and set a school record by giving up just 33.9 points a game. Six-foot-three junior Regina Rogers averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 3.0 steals and shot .620 from the field. Junior guard Nia Jackson averaged 13.3 points, 7.0 assists and 6.5 steals. Another junior, 6-4 Christina Nzekwe, averaged 10.3 points, 12 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 blocks.

Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) (35-1)
The Lancers won their last 30 games and second consecutive Division III state title following a 47-37 loss to No. 4 Troy. They have won 70 of their last 71 games. Candice Brown, a 6-foot-3 junior, led the balanced Lancers with 12.5 points and 7.6 rebounds. Colorado State recruit Juanice Cornell (5-11) averaged 11.7 points and 6.1 rebounds. Kristen McCarthy, a 5-10 sophomore, averaged 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds.

Shabazz (Newark, N.J.) (33-0)
The Bulldogs handed Bloomfield Tech its third loss, 66-56, before a crowd of 6,471 to win their third Tournament of Champions title. MVP Iasia Hemingway, a 5-foot-10 junior, had 25 points and 10 rebounds to spark Shabazz to its state-record 33rd victory. Six-foot senior Kellindra Zackery added 19 points.
