2. Chase Utley: One of the lone bright spots on yet another underachieving Phillies squad, Utley is in the midst of the longest hitting streak in the majors this season (27 games). During this stretch he's managed a .398 average and seven home runs. Needless to say, Utley's traveling fan club -- "the Vengabus" -- has been chuggin' along. (Utley rocked the Vengaboys' signature track as he came up to the plate in his first two seasons in the majors, hence the fan club's theme.)

3. John Sterling's home run calls: Stealing a daily bit from New York's premier sports talk radio show, Mike and the Mad Dog, I'd like to call attention to the radio voice of the Yankees, John Sterling, and his hilarious antics, specifically his home run calls. Never to be confused with an unbiased announcer, Sterling gets pretty animated after Yankees home runs, celebrating every jack with a ridiculous, player-personal catchphrase (each of which can be filed under "so bad, it's good"). On Tuesday he commemorated Aaron Guiel's three-run shot with a brand-new gem: "Aaron Guiel rounds the bases with a smile."

4. Another Marlins rookie arm: As if Josh Johnson, Scott Olsen and Ricky Nolasco weren't enough, there's now a fourth rookie starting pitcher making noise in South Florida. Anibal Sanchez, who came over from Boston with Hanley Ramirez in the Josh Beckett trade, owns a 4-0 record. Although the Red Sox lit up Sanchez in his lone relief appearance, the 22-year-old boasts a 1.42 ERA in five starts.

5. Adrian Gonzalez: Gonzalez has been on a tear since the All-Star break. Just take a look:

Gonzo's beginning to show why the Marlins picked him first overall in 2000. The Rangers -- who moved Gonzalez, Chris Young and Termel Sledge for Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka -- could end up with a Texas-sized media headache if this 24-year-old first baseman continues to develop.
