FSU and Miami fans don't see eye-to-eye when it comes to football.

Jenn, what is your favorite sports movie? Are there any specific sports movies that appeal to chicks? Because my girlfriend isn't into sports, but I want to be able to rent a sports flick every now and then when we are staying in on the weekends. -- Brett, New York
When picking a sports movie for a woman to watch, it has to have a story line or a particular character that appeals to her. Personally, I am a sucker for a flick that has an underdog, hot guys or anything that makes me laugh.
Even when I was younger, I had a thing for sports movies. It was after Little Giants and The Mighty Ducks that I discovered that Devon Sawa and Joshua Jackson were "hot," and bought enough Tiger Beat magazines to keep it in business. So if you're watching with a girl, hot guys in the movie are a must.
Underdog movies are the best! No matter how bad the team sucks, you still want to see them win in the end. And thanks to Hollywood not wanting to disappoint its audiences, the 'dogs usually come through. Think Major League and Rick Vaughn. If you watch this with your girl, by the end of the movie she'll be singing along with Wild Thing. (Which could also work in your favor!)
I also love a good sports movie that's a comedy. That's why I rank Varsity Blues as probably one of my favorite movies. I can quote pretty much every line from it, and still manage to laugh at the funny parts, despite having seen it a gazillion times. It doesn't hurt that James Van Der Beek is in it. But don't worry, fellas, there are plenty of whipped-cream bikinis to keep you happy, too.
Then, of course, I am always partial to The Longest Yard (the original). Maybe because it features a Florida State alum.
Hope my suggestions make movie night a little easier for you.
Is there one school (ACC or in general) that you feel has the most obnoxious fan base? You know, a rival whose students and supporters you just dread running into? -- Neil, St. Louis
I did end up needing a new cowboy hat after a certain incident with another Florida school's fans. Don't get me wrong, I can do my fair share of heckling, but I like to keep it classy. (This means no spitting, punching, beer-bottle throwing.) People tend to forget that when they have on their team's colors and logos, they are perceived as part of the program. So if some fans' actions are beyond that of the average sober, polite fan, people automatically assume that the entire fan base is like that. I have plenty of friends who go to rival schools. They are the ones who give me hope that one day all Florida schools can put aside their differences and get along (yeah, right).
I have encountered fans from many different conferences. I post on many of the Rivals and Scout message boards and have gotten to know some of the posters fairly well. We may not agree on favorite teams, but we're there for the same reason: love for the game. In the end that is all that really matters. That being said, I still hate Florida. (Just kidding.)
