Video Games: As if there weren't enough other things taking up your time, check out EA's new MVP 06 NCAA Baseball game. From the analog batting to the terribly deep franchise mode, it's a vast improvement on last year's great MVP 05, only it's all college teams instead of MLB teams. Of course, in MLB's infinite wisdom, they went for the money and sold exclusive licensing rights to 2K Sports, and while I haven't played their game, there's no way it's much better than this one. And now MLB gets half the publicity in a market dominated by kids, the very audience MLB can't get their hands around. Nice job, MLB.
NASCAR: The Daytona 500 fires up in two weeks, dropping the flag on the 2006 chase for the Nextel Cup. While Darrell Waltripis pickingJimmie Johnson to win the title, I just don't how Johnson will have the time to switch from the FOX NFL studio show to racing in time to be effective. Me, I'm picking Jeff Gordon.
World Baseball Classic: This thing starts in March, and I think it's going to be riveting action, even if the stars keep backing out. I'm particularly disappointed that Barry Bonds pulled out, as it would have been the first time in my life that I actually cheered for him.
March Madness: Just one month away, which seems unbelievably close. What's going to happen? Gonzaga will choke again, everyone will hate Duke as they continue to win and make American Express commercials, and John Calipari will once again get outcoached somewhere along the line. (By the way, here's a great site for you Duke haters out there.) My darkhorse pick: N.C. State. They keep plugging away (and winning) in the tough ACC, and center Cedric Simmons gets better every time I see him. Simmons gives them power in the post, and their guards can play with anyone. Maybe this is the year Herb Sendek finally wins it all.
Something I Learned This Week In An NBA Locker Room
The last movie Pacers swingman Stephen Jackson saw was Saw 2, but it was "too scary" for him and gave him nightmares.
Game Of The Week
Cubefield, especially the second level, reminds me of the old Star Wars arcade game. Great time killer.
