NHL Power Rankings

1 3 Despite the fact five starters are out injured, the Flyers continue to sizzle -- hence the move to the top spot. And it appears there's no slowing down Simon Gagne, who has 29 goals in 35 games. The 25-year-old winger is on pace for a 60-goal season, which would be a first for the Flyers since Reggie Leach potted 61 in 1975-76.

2 1 You didn't think the Senators would go all season without hitting a rut, did you? Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Martin Havlat all remain sidelined with injuries, but it's the power play -- or lack thereof -- that has burned Ottawa of late (0-for-24 in last four games). If that's not enough, Dany Heatley was held pointless Saturday for the first time in nine games.

3 2 Pavel Datsyuk had an assist Sunday to give him 200 career points. But that was the lone highlight for the Wings in a come-from-ahead 6-3 loss to Dallas. "We're real fortunate here, our fans, our players, and myself, we enjoy a lot of winning. Sometimes when you get spanked, it's good to remember that," coach Mike Babcock told the Detroit News.

4 6 It's a simply philosophy: The more goals you score, the more games you win. The 'Canes have 151 goals, just 21 fewer than their entire output in 2003-04. Only Detroit and Ottawa have scored more goals. And it's not just one player netting the majority, as Carolina has six players with 14 or more goals, led by Eric Staal's 26.

5 4 While the Predators have an impressive record, it's a bit misleading. Nashville is 11-0-1 against the Central Division's three weakest teams -- Chicago, Columbus and St. Louis. It remains to be seen if the Preds can consistently beat the elite teams, but Scott Walker's return after a 33-game injury layoff should help.

Calgary Flames (25-12-5)
The Flames are playing solid hockey. One of the biggest reasons is the play of Miikka Kiprusoff, who had Toronto shaking its collective head Friday in a 1-0 victory in earning his league-leading sixth shutout. In his last six starts, Kip is 5-1 while stonewalling 167 of 181 shots. For the season, the 29-year-old backstop is 22-10 with a 2.32 GAA.

Buffalo Sabres (27-13-2)
The Sabres on Saturday lost just their fourth game in regulation in their last 24, falling for the second time in their last three games. But good news is on the way, Sabres fans. J.P. Dumont's recovery from sports hernia surgery is ahead of schedule. Originally expected to be out until the beginning of March, Dumont hopes to be back before the league breaks for the Olympics in mid-February.

Dallas Stars (27-12-2)
After allowing two soft goals to Detroit on Sunday, Marty Turco was pulled for a second consecutive game. But that didn't prevent the Stars in rallying from a 3-0 deficit to stun the Red Wings 6-3, giving Dallas its first win against Detroit since 2002. The six goals equaled the Stars' total in their previous five games combined.

9 8 How do the Kings continue to win? With a plethora of injuries, it's remarkable this team is still at the top of the Pacific Division. Los Angeles has seven players that have been out injured since Dec. 14. The injuries have gotten so out of hand that coach Andy Murray has assumed control over injury information, ordering players to refer all injuries to him.
Last Week: 2-1-0
10 11 Rookie Henrik Lundqvist made a career-high 38 saves Saturday to earn his second career shutout against Florida. Fellow rookie Petr Prucha chipped in with his 20th goal to become the first Rangers rookie to score 20 since Mike York had 26 during the 1999-2000 season. I'm not going out on a big limb when I say Prucha, with 39 games left, will eclipse York's record.
