NCAA Football Power Rankings
Rank LW Team
21 22 Archrival Florida likes to bring in QB Tim Tebow to confound defenses; will FSU start doing the same with Xavier Lee? The sophomore saw his first significant action of the season in a 55-7 rout of Rice, including three series in the first half, and went 5 of 11 for 111 yards and a 57-yard TD.
Next game: Oct. 5 at N.C. State.
22 -- Supposedly, star Jackets receiver Calvin Johnson was questionable going into last Thursday's Virginia game after injuring his leg the previous Saturday. It didn't stop him from catching touchdowns of 66 and 58 yards and finishing with a career-high 165 yards on six catches.
Next game: Saturday at Virginia Tech.
23 -- Odd that my fellow pollsters chose to insert 4-0 Rutgers and Missouri, neither of which has beaten a I-A foe with a winning record, rather than the Huskies, who just beat UCLA and whose lone loss was to Oklahoma. U-Dub outscored the Bruins 22-3 in the second half of a 29-19 win.
Next game: Saturday at Arizona.
24 24 In a bizarre coincidence, Boise State's Orlando Scandrick returned a blocked extra point to the end zone for the second straight year against Hawaii in the Broncos' 41-34 win. RB Ian Johnson, meanwhile, continued his assault on the national rushing rankings with 178 yards on 29 carries.
Next game: Saturday at Utah.
25 20 Add BC's Ryan Ohliger to the unusually long list of kickers struggling with extra points this year. A week after missing two against BYU, he missed another following the Eagles' first touchdown against N.C. State. A failed two-point conversion later made the difference in a 17-15 loss.
Next game: Saturday vs. Maine.
Dropped out: UCLA, Arizona State
