When will the national media wake up? When the Gator Nation wanted Ron Zook gone, we got raked over the coals. WE WERE RIGHT. Now we have a loser of a QB, in the purest sense of the word, and many in the Gator Nation want him to start passing out Gatorade instead of footballs, but we're wrong again? Where you morons get off thinking you know more about our team than we do, I'll never know. All I do know is that my team has a loser playing QB, and his graduation couldn't come any sooner. Ladies and gentlemen, let this be a reminder that you should probably take at least 24 hours to cool off following a painful loss before sending me an e-mail. Because while Chris Leak may have lost to Auburn the other night, I think it's safe to say the Biggest Loser in this e-mail is the author. I've always thought Garrett Wolfe was extremely overrated. I can think of 10 guys off the top of my head that I'd rather have as my running back -- guys like Adrian Peterson, Mike Hart, Antonio Pittman, Marshawn Lynch, Kenny Irons, etc. After getting shut down by WESTERN MICHIGAN, is there any doubt Wolfe's numbers are a product of inferior competition? Jeez, did Garrett Wolfe make fun of your mother or something? Why all the hate toward a harmless MAC running back? Look, of course you'd take other guys on your team -- they're all physical specimens who are going to be playing on Sundays in the very near future, while Wolfe is 5-7, 177 pounds. But I don't know how you can say he's "extremely overrated" when he ran for 171 yards against Ohio State, 148 yards against Michigan last year, 245 against Northwestern. Is that "inferior competition"? The guy's a great college running back, regardless of what conference he plays in, and one bad game isn't going to change my opinion on that. Why is it that no one sees the injuries to Florida State's defense? They have suffered the worst rash of injuries I've ever seen and it's all on one side of the ball. By last count they have lost around eight players for the year or at least a couple of weeks. Why does this go unseen? I couldn't agree more. After the N.C. State loss, I went on one of the FSU fan sites to gauge the prevailing mood, and I was stunned to see the majority of the outrage directed at QB Drew Weatherford. That cliché about quarterbacks getting too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses? It's absolutely true. The 'Noles didn't lose that game because of their quarterback, they lost because with the game on the line, they were forced to play two freshman cornerbacks, a freshman defensive end, a pair of backup defensive tackles and a little-used linebacker. And it's only gotten worse since then -- now another linebacker, Geno Hayes, is hurt. That said, I'm not sure what you want us to do with this information. Throw a pity party? Give the 'Noles a sympathy AP vote? Don't worry, it hasn't gone unseen -- but USC's had a ton of injuries, too. Oklahoma just lost the best running back in the country. It's part of the game. How can your 26-119 rankings stay credible when you have UAB several spots below East Carolina, a team they easily defeated? You're right -- it's a travesty and an injustice. I will alert the monkeys immediately. You consistently refer all questions about rankings 26-119 to the underappreciated monkeys in the back. How much do they influence your 1-25 rankings, or do you rarely have meetings with them? Unfortunately, because I turn in my AP ballot late Saturday night -- usually right after covering a game -- I don't have time to consult with them first. I do notify them, however, which teams I've added or dropped since the previous week, since it obviously affects their rankings, and occasionally they get upset. In fact, one of them slinged poo at me the other day upon learning that Wake Forest was now off-limits. What does Arkansas RB Darren McFadden have to do to start getting some Heisman hype? Is 145 yards at Auburn not enough? I have heard objective, non-Arkansas fans, after watching McFadden, say he looks better than Adrian Peterson. I don't know if I would go that far, but he's got to be a top 10 Heisman candidate, right? McFadden is definitely the real deal, but he's still got some catching up to do in the Heisman race due to his limited role in that USC opener -- which obviously would have been a big showcase opportunity. He's also hurt by the fact that he shares carries with Felix Jones. He's really only had two "big" games -- Auburn and Utah State (20 carries, 184 yards). If Arkansas keeps winning and reaches the SEC title game, it's certainly possible McFadden could work his way into contention, but I think the more realistic scenario is he plants the seeds for a real run next year. My wife is ready to deliver our third child any day now. If it's a boy, I want to name him either Pete (after my favorite coach) or Stewart (after my favorite sportswriter). She wants to name him Joshua. What would you choose? Seeing as this e-mail was sent last week, I'm assuming the child has already been born. While I'm certainly flattered, I sincerely hope for your sake you went with Pete or Joshua. Trust me -- you do not want to have to explain to him one day that you named him after a sportswriter. Why do you write an inordinate amount about USC? I don't read your column (gotta be honest, I don't have much respect for sportswriters), but every other time I notice your column it's about USC -- they're the greatest ever, they're terrible, they're not cheating, etc. Did you go there or something? OK, since you asked so nicely and since you showed such admiration for me and my profession, I'll let you in on a little secret: I'm a maniacal USC fan. Stewy, you just can't stand it that a California team continues to rule college football, can you? USC is 6-0. They've won two national titles in the last four years and finished No. 2 and No. 3 in the other two years. Deal with it, Mandel. Deal with it. I'm sorry, Larry, I can't. I just hate USC so much.
