S. Jackson's trial delayed until MayPosted: Tuesday April 10, 2007 1:18PM; Updated: Tuesday April 10, 2007 1:21PM INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The trial for Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Jackson, accused of shooting a gun during a fight at a strip club, was shifted from Thursday to May 10. Matthew Symons, spokesman for the Marion County prosecutor's office, said Jackson's attorneys requested the switch but did not know why. "It's not in any way unusual," he said. "The defendant has a right to a speedy trial. If they waive that right, there really isn't any limit to how many times it can be pushed back." Jackson has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of criminal recklessness and misdemeanor counts of battery and disorderly conduct for his role in the mayhem outside Club Rio in October. Jackson, playing at the time for the Indiana Pacers, said he fired shots in the air from his pearl-handled 9 mm pistol to try to break up the fight. The criminal recklessness charge carries a prison term of six months to three years. At the time of the fight, Jackson was on probation for his role in a brawl between Indiana Pacers players and Detroit Pistons fans in 2004. Jackson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault and battery charges in September 2005 for his role in the 2004 fight. A Michigan judge ruled that the charges stemming from the fight in October constituted a violation of Jackson's probation. Jackson, who was traded to the Warriors in January, faces up to 30 days in jail on the probation violation. | |||
