By Matt Satten, Special to SI.com, ProFantasySports.com The rash of injuries that has struck the NBA over the past few weeks is beginning to subside. No major player went down for an extended time this week and we saw the return of a few recent victims. With one-third of the league playing four-game slates this week, you might be able to steal a category or two if you play your cards right and take the time to read this column the whole way through. Now step inside The Lab. G/F Michael Redd, Milwaukee -- Strained patellar tendon, out for Monday, day-to-day SF/PF Charlie Villanueva, Milwaukee -- Shoulder injury, out Monday, doubtful for the rest of the week PG Tony Parker, San Antonio -- Hip soreness, day-to-day PG Chris Paul, New Orleans -- Severely sprained ankle, out indefinitely SG Jason Richardson, Golden State -- Broken hand, out 6-8 weeks SG/SF/PF Gerald Wallace, Charlotte -- Separated shoulder, could return this week PG Chauncey Billups, Detroit -- Calf injury, doubtful that he'll return by next weekend C Yao Ming, Houston-- Broken leg, out 6-8 weeks PF Chris Webber, Philadelphia -- Strained foot, day-to-day SG Rashard Lewis, Seattle -- Finger surgery, out indefinitely G/F Josh Smith, Atlanta -- Hernia surgery, out this week G/F Paul Pierce, Boston -- Stress reaction in foot, out again this week C Marcus Camby, Denver -- Broken finger/wrist sprain, day-to-day SF Carmelo Anthony, Denver -- Suspension, out until Jan. 20 SG J.R. Smith, Denver -- Suspension, can return on Wednesday PF Lamar Odom, L.A. Lakers -- Knee sprain, out indefinitely PF David West, New Orleans -- Arm surgery, out indefinitely G/F Peja Stojakovic, New Orleans -- Back surgery, out indefinitely PG Brevin Knight, Charlotte -- Sports hernia surgery, out 1-2 months PG Sam Cassell, L.A. Clippers -- Plantar fasciitis/heel injury, likely out this week Of the players mentioned above, we'd give consideration to keeping Redd, Parker, Wallace, Camby and Smith active. Expect all of them to suit up for at least a game or two this week and possibly more. Make sure you reserve everyone else on this list. 1 of 2 |
