ADDRESS RED FLAGS

Some scouts worried that Kevin Kolb excelled only because of the offensive system he played in at Houston, but he has disproved that notion in offseason workouts.

Kevin Kolb, QB, Houston

(Kolb was considered a mid-round selection after his senior year at Houston, but now he could be selected in the early part of the second round.)

I was graded as a sixth-rounder but I shot up some because of my success this season. But some teams were concerned I was a system quarterback because of our offense at Houston. Right after the season, I worked with coach Jerry Rome, who tutored Vince Young last year. Rhome spent a lot of time looking at film with me and helping me recognize areas where I could improve. Things like how I closed my shoulders too much when I dropped back so I couldn't see the whole field and other technique things. And he prepped me on what kind of questions NFL teams were going to ask me, which helped me at the scouting combine.

I don't believe I threw my best at the combine, but that's because it's impossible to get in any kind of rhythm there. I think I made up for it at my pro day. And I believe I did well in interviews, both during the combine and afterward. I think a lot of teams are now more aware that I can play quarterback in any system and they feel more comfortable drafting me than they might have the day after my last game.

HAVE A SPECIALTY

Yamon Figurs, WR/KR/PR, Kansas State

(Figurs was an exciting player at college, but he really came into NFL teams' focus after the combine in February. He could go higher than everyone originally expected.)

Teams seem to be excited about getting a potential weapon as a returner. When you look at the NFL, there's not much of a margin between the offenses and the defenses. A kick or punt return for a TD can make the difference in a game. Devin Hester made teams take notice. So teams worked me out on a lot of return drills ... one-handed punt catches ... things like that. I know my 40 (4.30) at the combine got a lot of attention. The funny thing, I know I could have run faster. But I consider myself a football player too. I think I can do a lot of good things for teams next year.
