Top two teams fall, opening the door for Huntington

There is major movement in this week's National Top 25. Former No. 1 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) and former No. 2 Artesia (Artesia, Calif.) both lost last week, paving the way for Huntington (W.Va.) to move into the top spot in this week's rankings.

Huntington (W.VA.) (13-0)
The Highlanders move up to No. 1 after losses by former No. 1 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) and Artesia (Artesia, Calif.). Huntington defeated County rival Midland, 97-55, for its 12th consecutive victory over the Knights. Senior guard O.J. Mayo poured in a game-high 33 points, while senior forward Patrick Patterson tallied 25 points, eight boards and a block.

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) (20-1)
Senior forward Taylor King recorded 40 points and 13 rebounds and senior point guard Kamyron Brown tallied seven points, 13 assists and eight steals to lead the Monarchs to a 104-59 victory over Servite. Artesia fans might wonder why Mater Dei is ahead of the Pioneers even though they lost to Artesia in December. Well, that was a one-point loss and Mater Dei has since rattled off six wins, while Artesia fell to an unranked La Mirada squad last week.

St. Benedict (Newark, N.J.) (17-0)
Senior guard Corey Stokes scored 25 points, junior center Samardo Samuels poured in 23 points and sophomore guard Tamir Jackson chipped in with 22 points to lead the Gray Bees past Plainfield, 85-71.

Oak Hill (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) (24-1)
The Warriors drop after losing to then-No. 24 Simeon (Chicago, Ill.), 78-75, in a game that was on national TV. Senior guard Alex Legion paced Oak Hill in the loss with 23 points and nine boards. Junior guard Brandon Jennings scored all 19 of his points in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over seven times.

St. Patrick (Elizabeth,N.J.) (13-1)
The Celtics defeated St. Joseph (Metuchen), 78-58, behind a game-high 21 points from senior point guard Corey Fisher, who also dished out five assists. Sophomore guard Dexter Strickland added 16 points.

Artesia (Lakewood, Calif.) (16-1)
The Pioneers drop after they were upset by La Mirada, 67-65. Junior guard Malik Story scored a game-high 19 points in the loss, while La Mirada was led by senior Taylor Siemens, who scored 18 points. Artesia rebounded from the defeat by cruising past Norwalk, 102-29. Story paved the way for the huge win with 30 points and nine assists, while senior guard James Harden tallied 25 points and eight boards.

Simeon (Chicago) (14-2)
The Wolverines jump 17 spots after upsetting then-No. 1 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), 78-75, in Chicago on national TV. Senior point guard Derrick Rose was unstoppable as he posted 28 points, nine assists and eight boards. Senior power forward Kevin Johnson added 18 points and 10 boards, senior center Tim Flowers tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds and senior guard Daniel Green scored 11 points.

South Medford (Medford, Ore.) (15-1)
The Panthers beat North Medford, 96-56, for their 15th consecutive victory over their rival. Senior forward Kyle Singler had 30 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, while junior guard Michael Harthun added 25 points, seven assists and five boards.

Norcross (Ga.) (18-2)
The Blue Devils cruised past Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville, Fla.), 88-69, at the PrimeTime Tour at Norcross. Junior forward Al-Farouq Aminu put forth a monster effort with 23 points, 21 rebounds and six assists. Aminu broke the Primetime Tour record for rebounds in a game. Senior forward Gani Lawal scored 25 points and grabbed 10 boards, while sophomore point guard Taariq Mohammad chipped in with 13 points and 11 assists.

Duncanville (Texas) (24-0)
Super sophomore forward Shawn Williams scored a game-high 23 points, while senior forward D'Walyn Roberts added 19 points in a 70-52 win over Arlington Bowie.

Lake Oswego (Ore.) (12-1)
Senior center Kevin Love scored 26 points to lead the Lakers to a 75-34 victory over Milwaukie.

St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) (13-0)
St. Edward upended Benedictine, 88-51, to remain undefeated.
