Shaylyn Blaney, Ward Melville (East Setauket, N.Y.), midfield, Sr.
Blaney, a Notre Dame signee, is RISE's No. 1 girls' recruit in the Class of 2007. The 2007 U.S Women's Under-19 training team member wowed the crowds as an underclassman, collecting 191 goals and 55 assists in her freshman through junior years. As a senior this season, the 5-foot-4 midfielder continued her stellar play and led the Patriots to a 15-1, scoring more than 60 goals. One of Blaney's most impressive showings was an eight-goal effort in a 15-13 win over Yorktown (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) on April 28.
Erin Brennan, Garden City (N.Y.), midfield, Jr.
Though just a junior, Brennan has certainly earned her place as one of the nation's top players, especially after she was selected to the U.S. Under-19 women's national training team. This year for Garden City, Brennan had 54 goals and 36 assists during the regular season to lead her squad to a 14-1 record. "She does everything for us," says Garden City head coach Diane Chapman. "She's kind of the quarterback on the team for us." Brennan, who's also a standout field hockey player, was named MVP of the state lacrosse tournament as a sophomore after leading Garden City to the state crown.
Colleen Bubnack, West Genesee (Camillus, N.Y.), midfield, Sr.
The Lady Wildcats' (18-0) were the nation's No. 1 ranked team through the regular season, according to LaxPower.com, and coach Bob Elmer says a huge reason was the play of his midfield led by the Colgate-bound Bubnack. "She's an amazing player in transition," says Elmer. Bubnack was second on the team in scoring during the regular season with 57 points and helped West Genesee snap Mount Hebron's (Ellicott City, Md.) 103-game winning streak in April.
Jackie Doherty, Mount Hebron (Ellicott City, Md.), defense, Sr.
The Notre Dame-bound Doherty helped Mount Hebron (18-1) remain one of the country's top lacrosse powers, leading the Vikings to their 18th regional championship, 11th consecutive Maryland Class 3A/2A state title (a national record) with a win North Harford (Pylesville, Md.) and the No. 4 spot in the LaxPower.com national rankings. Doherty, who is rated the nation's No. 4 girls' lacrosse recruit in the Class of 2007 by RISE, scored two goals in Mount Hebron's 14-5 victory over Glenelg (Glenelg, Md.) in the Maryland Class 3A/2A South championship game in May.
Liz Downs, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Alexandria, Va.), midfield/defense, Sr.
The Saints went 22-1 and won their 13th straight ISL title in May, further cementing themselves as one of the nation's premiere programs (they were ranked No. 2 in the nation by LaxPower.com). Downs, a 2007 U.S Under-19 women's national training team member who is ranked the No. 3 girls' player in the Class of 2007 by RISE, scored 31 goals and had 15 assists, 55 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers as a senior this spring, helping the Saints win the Virginia Independent School title. She has signed to play at Virginia next year.
Jacqueline Giles, Mount Hebron (Ellicott City, Md.), attack, Sr.
Giles collected 123 goals and 30 assists for the Vikings in her first three seasons and she kept up that production as a senior. The Georgetown signee, who is rated the nation's No. 9 girls' player in the Class of 2007 by RISE, took her game to new levels in 2007 and scored 59 goals for Mount Hebron. This year, Giles also helped the Vikings beat North Harford (Pylesville, Md.) in the Maryland Class 3A/2A state final game to give Mount Hebron its 15th state championship in the program's history.
Mia Hurrin, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Alexandria, Va.), midfield, Sr.
Hurrin, the nation's No. 10 girls' player in RISE's Class of 2007 rankings, was Liz Downs' partner in crime for the ISL-champion Saints this year. The North Carolina signee had 47 goals, six assists and 58 ground balls for the Saints and scored a game-high four goals in their 16-7 victory over Holton-Arms in the ISL title game on May 14. Hurrin, a member of the U.S Women's Under-19 training team, also scored two goals in the VIS title game, a 14-6 win over Collegiate (Richmond, Va.) on May 19.
Katie Janian, Bryn Mawr School (Baltimore), goalie, Sr.
The Yale-bound Janian is rated the nation's No. 1 goalie and No. 8 overall recruit in the Class of 2007 by RISE. A member of the U.S. Under-19 women's national training team, Janian helped lead Bryn Mawr to a 14-3 record by saving 97 of 177 shots for a save percentage of 54.8 percent and allowed just 4.7 goals per game. "Her greatest strength is that she stays calm," says Bryn Mawr head coach Wendy Kridel. "Strategically, she really knows her opponent."
Jordy Kirr, Bryn Mawr School (Baltimore), attack, Sr.
Kirr missed the last three games of this season with a broken clavicle, but she still managed to make a big impact for Bryn Mawr. In 14 games, Kirr recorded 25 goals and 19 assists in a well-balanced scoring attack after tallying 22 goals and 11 assists as a junior. Kirr, who's a member of the U.S. Under-19 women's national training team, will play for Georgetown next year. "She has the ability to go hard to the goal, but she can also step back and see the entire field," says Bryn Mawr coach Wendy Kridel. "She's very unselfish."
Colleen Magarity, Germantown Academy (Fort Washington, Pa.), midfield, Sr.
When the ball is in Magarity's stick, opponents and teammates alike had better be alert. The Northwestern-bound midfielder was a goal-scoring machine this spring for the Patriots with 94 goals in 24 regular-season games. Her teammates also had to keep their eyes open at all times, as the U.S. U-19 training team player unselfishly dished out 53 assists. "If someone's open, Colleen will find her," Germantown Academy coach Ginny Hofmann says. "She's so quick that she can get free and make a play before you know it."
