According to reports in both the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and The Miami Herald, Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach, Fla.) sophomore Kenny Boynton Jr. will not be playing for the Tigers next season.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder is rated the nation's No. 6 overall recruit in the Class of 2009 by RISE. "He will not be returning to Ely," Boynton's mother, Dana, told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We've been contemplating this for a while. The administration and athletic department [at Ely] don't appreciate the coaches and the players."
Boynton and his family have not decided where to transfer, but The Miami Herald reports that Plantation American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) and national power Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) are possible options. As a sophomore this year, Boynton averaged 29.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game and helped lead Ely to the Class 6A state title.
He was named state tournament MVP and the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 6A Player of the Year.
