Who are the nation's top football players?
To find out TAKKLE teamed up with Offense-Defense, which for years has run camps across the country and scouted top athletes, to power the SI/TAKKLE Top 100. The O-D team, made up of former NFL players, coaches and scouts, compiled the most thorough evaluation of high school players around.
Offense-Defense used a number of variables in compiling the rankings, including 2006 stats, difficultly of a players' high school schedule and level of competition in the individual's state. In addition, O-D checked the athletes' background with coaches and guidance councilors and local officials to get a true sense of the intangibles. When all the information was gathered the O-D team huddled in its Myrtle Beach, S.C., war room and came up with the preseason rankings.
The class of 2008 is headlined by versatile quarterback Terrelle Pryor of Jeanatte High (Pittsburgh), but speedy running back Darrell Scott (St. Bonaventure, Ventura, Calif.) isn't far behind. Foley (Ala.) wide receiver Julio Jones, Summerville (S.C) wideout A.J. Green and St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) quarterback/safety Will Hill round out the top five.
These rankings will be updated throughout the season and will include season statistics, commitments and a list of schools the player is considering, and videos from Takkle.com. Check back in late September for the next update.
