The University of Minnesota is interested in talking to TCU's Gary Patterson about its head football coaching job. One problem for the Gophers is that Patterson reportedly has a $1 million contract buyout. The Gophers job is being checked out for Patterson by friends. LSU freshman backup Ryan Perrilloux has surfaced as a person of interest to federal investigators in New Orleans. Federal and school officials cautioned, however, that Perrilloux has not been accused of any crime and has not been arrested. School officials strove to tamp down rumors that Perrilloux had been kicked off the team or that his presence with the Tigers had become an unwelcome distraction. LSU is considering several candidates to replace Jimbo Fisher, among them Major Applewhite and Jason Garrett. There were unconfirmed reports Garrett interviewed for the job Tuesday, USC coach Pete Carroll closed the loophole he had left open Tuesday, saying that he would not be leaving USC for the Dolphins, not even if offered full control over personnel decisions and $6 million a year. Oklahoma junior running back Adrian Peterson will skip his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft, according to two sources close to the situation. An official announcement could come as early as Thursday. Notre Dame junior running back Darius Walker will make himself eligible for the NFL draft, his father said Wednesday evening. Jimmy Walker said his son will announce the decision during a news conference today. Several Texas players have signed with Creative Artists Agency. The Longhorns who have signed with CAA include OG Justin Blalock, CB Aaron Ross, S Michael Griffin and DE Tim Crowder. CAA also has signed Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn, Mississippi LB Patrick Willis and Fresno State CB Marcus McCauley. One-time Georgia recruit Clifton Geathers says today he'll sign with South Carolina. Don't be surprised if Arizona junior college recruit Jarrell Holman, who has committed to Minnesota, reneges for Arizona State. Holman probably was headed to ASU regardless of Glen Mason's dismissal at Minnesota after being dissuaded by former Gophers assistant Craig Bray. | |||||||
