There's little doubt Predators goalie Tomas Vokoun is struggling to regain his pre-injury form. Two questions remain: How long will it take him to get there, and should the Predators use more of Chris Mason in the meantime? Coach Barry Trotz had already decided to use Mason against Columbus tonight, but he left open the possibility that Mason's appearances may increase. If former Kansas City Blades owner Russ Parker were an NHL owner, his first choice to relocate might not be Kansas City. "My only real concern is the size of the market," Parker told the Calgary Herald. "If I was Pittsburgh, or any other existing team looking to move, my first choice might be Houston. It has the size and a natural geographic rivalry with Dallas. (Or) Oklahoma City." The Kings could have interest in goaltender Sean Burke, who was waived by Tampa Bay. Panthers forward Chris Gratton and coach Jacques Martin talked privately after Wednesday morning's practice about Martin's decision to bench the veteran for the third period of Tuesday's game. Martin said it was time to send a message. Nikolai Khabibulin's consecutive-games streak as the Blackhawks' starting goaltender is over. Coach Denis Savard said that Brian Boucher will be between the pipes when the Hawks return to action Friday against the Wild. In an effort to get Khabibulin some rest, Savard ordered him off the ice for Monday's practice and gave him a pep talk before Wednesday's session. The Penguins are still hopeful that the NHL will take some action, such as a fine or suspension, against Jason Blake of the Islanders for jabbing Sidney Crosby in the abdomen late in the game Tuesday night. Stars Jeff Halpern, who strained a groin in pregame warmups Monday, and Philippe Boucher, who was struck in the face during the first period Monday, sat out Wednesday. Dave Tippett said they could be available Saturday and that Boucher's All-Star Game status shouldn't be jeopardized. Capitals defenseman Mike Green will miss Thursday's game against the Hurricanes -- and could be out longer -- after being hit on his left foot by a slap shot Tuesday night. General manager George McPhee said the extent of Green's injury won't be known until some of the swelling subsides. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
