While addressing the media last week in Charlotte, NASCAR team owner Jack Roush spoke as if the pending sale of a portion of his racing organization to Boston Red Sox owner John Henry, and Henry's Fenway Sports Group, was effectively complete. It isn't. In fact, it could be a while. It's one of the most elaborate transactions Roush Racing president Geoff Smith has ever seen.

Kurt and Kyle Busch usually are quite jovial when they talk about their hometown racetrack. But Tuesday afternoon, caution could be detected in their voices as they spoke about this week's test sessions at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Speeds have gone crazy this week. Last year, Greg Biffle won the pole at 172.403 mph. Monday afternoon, Kasey Kahne ran a lap at 184.685 mph. There has been a spate of crashes the last two days and a couple of engine failures as well.

Looks like Greg Biffle will drive the No. 26 Oreo Ford in at least one race in the Busch Series as TV commercials show Biffle and the No. 26 Ford with a Busch decal on the car and in an Orea Driver suit but with a Nextel Cup patch.

Darrell Waltrip generally likes this season's re-tooled Chase for the Nextel Cup. But if NASCAR had asked, he would have offered a couple of suggestions. "First, I'd like to see the Chase reduced from 10 races to seven or even five," said Waltrip. "Ten races is too many for a 'playoff.' Also, I'd have a separate points system for the Chase once it got under way."

Mike Skinner is testing Bill Davis Racing's No. 23 Toyota this week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but Skinner said Monday he likely won't drive the car in the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at the track on March 11. Dave Blaney is guaranteed a starting spot in the first five races in the No. 22, but Jeremy Mayfield's No. 36 car is not.
