Chargers officials are discussing Pete Carroll, but they are clearly not banking on him. The Chargers are looking for a coach to deliver a Super Bowl. USC has a coach with two national championships. Should they team up and unite Southern California, San Diego County will have only more impetus to help build a new stadium. The team's future in San Diego could be at stake.

The Chargers have received permission to talk to Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan about their head coaching vacancy, according to league sources. In addition to Ryan, the Chargers have been granted permission to talk to three other candidates: Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner and 49ers linebackers coach Mike Singletary.

Giants fans may have been able to see Tiki Barber in Big Blue's huddle for another season, if not for the physical beating he received playing under head coach Tom Coughlin. Barber implied that Coughlin has problems relating to players on the team, and that it was an "act of God" that the physical demands the coach placed on him did not result in a serious injury.
