Mike Golic Jr., son of former Notre Dame defensive lineman Mike Golic, promised to commit to the Irish whenever Charlie Weis extended a scholarship offer -- even if the offer came while the son is in Italy this week on a class trip. Weis extended the offer Monday while Golic stood outside the Leaning Tower of Pisa. His list of suitors included Florida, Michigan and Penn State. Florida coach Billy Donovan said Monday he didn't have a problem with an exchange between Joakim Noah and Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings. Stallings refused to give Noah the ball before an inbounds play and swatted Noah's arm away as he reached for the ball a second time. Noah said he was told not to talk about the incident, but said he wasn't angry at Stallings. When Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst was approached by the Cowboys to be their quarterbacks coach. UW officials put together a multiyear offer, including a substantial pay raise. Those sources have indicated that Chryst enjoys both college and professional football. However, is more comfortable focusing on coaching than recruiting, the latter a critical element of college coaching. Coach Sean Sutton billed Byron Eaton as the nation's best point guard in his class after he signed with Oklahoma State. But Eaton is feeling the football itch. Many major college football programs wanted Eaton as a tailback. Several others wanted to utilize him as a big-hitting, ball-hawking safety. Sutton made it clear during the recruiting process that he wasn't willing to share Eaton with the football program. Ekpe Udoh wanted to be clear Monday -- he's not going anywhere. The transfer rumors he heard made the Michigan freshman forward laugh as he told reporters Saturday and then he finally tracked down their origin. Apparently Obi Muonelo, an Oklahoma State guard who played with Udoh in high school at Edmond, Okla., was talking to a reporter about Udoh. Troy Smith seems to be taking the right steps to prepare for the NFL combine, which begins Thursday in Indianapolis. Smith has retained quarterbacks guru Jerry Rhome, who worked with Vince Young before last year's draft. Texas A&M has landed its first quarterback oral commitment for the Class of 2008. Birdville (Texas) junior Tommy Dorman said he has given A&M his pledge. Dorman is a dual-threat quarterback, said he chose A&M over offers from Oklahoma State, SMU and TCU. As of late Monday afternoon, Florida State officials had yet to receive a written request from Brandon Warren but acknowledged he is seeking a release from his scholarship in order to transfer to another school. Warren is expected to enroll over the summer at Tennessee if FSU grants him his release. Kansas coach Bill Self said he wasn't bothered by the live chickens that were released in Bramlage Coliseum before tipoff. Security guards corralled the birds and removed them from the arena. A.J. Green of Summerville, S.C. has already committed to Georgia, but should draw offers from every major program in the Southeast and most in the country. Has been the top receiver in the state of South Carolina since his freshman year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
