There are rumblings that the NBA might institute a "no flopping'' rule next season that would give officials the option of calling a technical foul on players who get creative in attempting to get a charging call.

By playing Troy Hudson, the Wolves could try to increase his trade value. He has three more seasons and about $19 million remaining on his contract. Hudson would have to play well to draw interest from teams this summer. If the Wolves play Mike James and he responds well, it might also increase his trade value. There were reports that the Wolves tried to trade James before the league deadline last month.

Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman said after Tuesday night's double-overtime victory against the Lakers that he will use "feel'' to determine the point-guard rotation. That means veterans Troy Hudson and Mike James could be interchanged with rookie Randy Foye at any time in the game.

Lindsey Hunter has been promised a position within the Pistons organization whenever he retires. He signed a two-year, $4.5-million contract last summer with that guarantee. There's no telling what effect -- if any -- Hunter's suspension will have on his image -- or his future with the organization.

The Nets realize they could be fighting for coach Lawrence Frank's job. Frank, though, has received strong support from Nets brass, and got some again yesterday from team president Rod Thorn.

Hawks captain Joe Johnson could be out three to four weeks, and possibly the rest of the season with a deep contusion in his right calf muscle. A hematoma formed under the calf muscle, and Johnson had to go to the hospital early Tuesday morning.

Former Spurs scout Kevin Pritchard, who is the Trail Blazers' director of player personnel, reportedly is the leading candidate for the general manager's job. Portland coach Nate McMillan also could have greater influence in personnel decisions.

On Dec. 27, standing in a United Center hallway, Pat Riley calmly and perhaps tactically said Kirk Hinrich had contributed to Dwyane Wade's wrist injury by grabbing Wade's hand as he came off a screen. But Wednesday, Riley cut short a question about the incident and his postgame comments.
