Chris Simon's vicious swing at Ryan Hollweg's head briefly left the Rangers' winger unable to hear but somehow resulted in just a cut to the chin that required a few stitches.

David Koci was called up from Norfolk, and the Blackhawks aren't promoting him because he can score goals. Koci, a 6-6, 238-pounder, has only three goals in 194 games over four seasons in the AHL. Instead, the Hawks like his penalty minutes -- 770 over that same span, with an AHL-high 212 this season in only 39 games.

The Penguins aren't packing for Kansas City just yet. After more than four hours of talks last night, the team and state and local leaders reported "significant progress" in negotiations on a new arena, providing hope for fans just when it seemed as if the franchise might skate off to another city.
