In training camp, the Cowboys asked Terrell Owens not to focus on a segment of the playbook because he was having a difficult time grasping it. T.O.'s lack of familiarity with the playbook wasn't a secret. Players knew. Coaches knew. Front-office personnel knew. Quarterback Tony Romo had to tell Owens what to do several times after the Cowboys broke the huddle during their playoff loss to Seattle. That wasn't a shock: Romo and others had to tell Owens the plays during practice, on occasion, so it surprised few when he wasn't sure what to do during games. If the Lions take Wisconsin OT Joe Thomas and don't trade down to a team that wants Brady Quinn, then the first potential landing spot for Quinn, an Ohio product, is Cleveland at No. 3. The Vikings (7th), Texans (8th) and Dolphins (9th) could each try to move up for Quinn or hope he falls to them. For the second consecutive week, there's been a report that the Texans might be trying to move up in the draft to select Quinn. Neither report is true. The Texans are not expected to pass up Quinn if he is available with the eighth pick, but they haven't tried to move up. Houston quarterback David Carr could go Miami, Oakland, or Cleveland. The Texans would like a first-day draft pick for the player selected with the first overall pick in the 2002 draft.-- Trenton Times Three teams that would like to move up in the draft are Denver, Houston and possibly Chicago. Teams that may want to slide down and pick up an extra pick or two, include Cleveland, Arizona and Washington. Two executives for an NFL team called a Pioneer Press reporter to mock the Vikings for signing free-agent wide receiver Bobby Wade for five years and $15 million. Such comments reverberate around the Vikings these days, both publicly by their fans and privately by team executives and agents speaking anonymously. According to the NFL Network, the Dolphins and Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for wide receiver Donte' Stallworth, exchanged more than one proposal over the weekend and a decision could be made by today. Not only have the Dolphins not contacted Ricky Williams since Nick Saban left, they haven't told his reps if they plan to keep or trade him. His NFL reinstatement -- provided he doesn't stumble -- is set for mid-April. His offseason moves indicate new GM Jerry Reese wants to get the Giants younger and healthier, which won't necessarily result in more victories right away. That won't help Tom Coughlin get another contract extension. Despite reports that the Giants are expecting to meet this week with linebacker Cato June, no visit has been scheduled and thus far, there's been little interest by the Giants in the unrestricted free-agent. Patriots owner Bob Kraft was in Israel last week with former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue. The annual trip, which the Kraft family leads for those who have never been to Israel, coincided with the announcement of a new Israeli tackle football league. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
