Former NASCAR chairman Bill France Jr. was hospitalized Wednesday night at Halifax Medical Center, where he was under the care of his personal physicians. His condition was not known, and NASCAR officials confirmed only that the 73-year-old France had been admitted.

The truck and Busch circuits have had fewer competitors trying to make the races this season. While that might sound like bad news, smaller fields could be just what some aspiring young driver needs to make a name for himself in NASCAR. Unless there are late entries, all 36 drivers in Friday's Craftsman Truck Series race will get to compete, and all but one of the entries for Saturday's Nicorette 300 Busch Series race will be in the starting field.

The O'Reilly 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park on June 30 will be dedicated to NASCAR great Bobby Hamilton, who died earlier this year of complications from cancer.

Michael Waltrip will drive Braun Racing's No. 32 Toyota in this weekend's Nicorette 300 Busch Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the team announced. Waltrip joins Braun Racing's full-time drivers, Dave Blaney in the No. 10 and Jason Leffler in the No. 38, this weekend.

In conjunction with NASCAR, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation, Juan Pablo Montoya will be filming a public service announcement for the "Click It or Ticket" campaign designed to promote seat belt safety. The PSA will be filmed in both English and Spanish.

The No. 72 Cup team, owned by Brian and Tony Mullet, announced to its team members and driver Brandon Whitt that it will be moving to the Busch Series. The team will be headed by Greg Pollex (formerly of ppc Racing), with Todd Gordon as Crew Chief and Jason Keller as the driver.

Former NASCAR champion Terry Labonte has entered the TD Banknorth 250 late model race at Oxford Plains Speedway, track officials said on their website. Labonte will drive a car fielded by Richard Moody Racing of Auburn, Maine.
