The Phillies really need to improve, and their skipper knows it. Charlie Manuel is starting to sound an awful lot like a manager in the last year of his contract who is beginning to worry that his team might not be good enough.

Phillies pitcher Jon Lieber has a mild strain of his right oblique muscle. The injury came in the aftermath of his first relief appearance since Manuel announced the veteran would open the season in the bullpen if he wasn't traded. An injury isn't going to make trading Lieber easier.
