History was made in August of 1992 when Bristol Motor Speedway hosted the very first Nextel Cup Series race on an all-concrete surface. In July of this year, fans will get the opportunity to own a piece of that history. On July 1, pieces of the original concrete surface from the start/finish Line, will be made available for fans. Germain Racing plans to field two fulltime Nextel Cup teams for Toyota by 2009. Todd Bodine took the first step in that process on Tuesday, testing a Busch Series car at Richmond. Germain Racing will enter Bodine in the May 4 Richmond Busch race in a Camry being built at its new Mooresville, N.C., shop. It is the first of 11 Busch events the 43-year-old Bodine is scheduled to enter this season. With less than a month left in the 2007 Washington State Legislature session, International Speedway Corp. reiterated its pledge Monday that it won't go to a site in Washington where the people don't want it. Richard Childress Racing officials say St. Louis native Kenny Wallace will drive the team's Racing's No. 2 Chevrolet in the July 21 Busch Series race at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis. The No. 2 team is running a part-time schedule with Clint Bowyer this season, and Wallace has focused his efforts on Furniture Row Racing's Nextel Cup team this year. Jeff Burton led Tuesday's NASCAR Busch Series test session at Richmond International Raceway, topping the speed charts at 125.267 mph (21.554 seconds). Matt Kenseth was second fastest with a speed of 124.850 mph (21.626 seconds). Mark Day had to choose between a one-shot ride in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and loyalty to his long-time Late Model team that helped him capture the Music City Motorplex championship last season. The hitch came when Day got a call last week telling him he needed to practice Harvick's truck prior to the scheduled race Saturday at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
