Doc Rivers will have an opportunity to coach the Celtics next year and beyond. According to league sources, the club is prepared to offer Rivers a contract extension following this season.

Amaré Stoudemire had a closed-door meeting with coach Mike D'Antoni after contributing just 15 points and two rebounds in Thursday night's loss to the Spurs. For the fourth time in the past four games, Shaquille O'Neal did not address the media after the game. O'Neal finished with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds and five blocks Sunday, and is seemingly upset with a lack of opportunities during the past few games.

When Dwyane Wade surprised his teammates with word he would be returning for Sunday's game, there was a bet about whether Wade would milk the reaction from an excited crowd. Wade came out to the floor with his teammates, but received an extended ovation as he approached the scorer's table with four minutes left in the first quarter. But before he could get any game action, Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff called a timeout.

While the Heat was preparing for a critical road game against the Cavaliers on Thursday, center Michael Doleac was receiving some startling news about his younger brother. Army 2nd Lt. Kenneth Doleac was piloting a Black Hawk helicopter just south of Baghdad that was shot down. Doleac survived, as did his fellow troops in the helicopter, but it still shocked the Heat center and his family.

Sinusitis may not sound serious, but Ben Wallace would beg to differ. Wallace said he was suffering from an extreme headache through his scoreless 22˝ minutes. Wallace said doctors in Detroit, who performed a spinal tap on him to rule out meningitis, told him the headache could last for more than two weeks.
